Too good to be true

In the course of keeping our fingers on the pulse of popular culture, we occasionally encounter stories that we have difficulty believing. It isn't that we don't think the celebrities in question are capable the years spent writing this column have shown us that famous people are capable of just about any asinine word or deed that you can imagine. But sometimes, we hear something that conjures up a perfect storm of emotions within us, a balanced blend of sad and glad.

Slam Rewind: 2013

Written by Allen Adams

We've had another wonderful year here at Celebrity Slam. Without fail, each and every week brought some sort of celebrity shenanigans for us to scorn, deride and generally mock for our own amusement (and secondarily, for yours). While we've seen a lot of different famous folks make appearances on this page over the past 52 weeks, there is no disputing who has earned the top spot for 2013.

It's Kim and Kanye for the win.

Somebody's watching you

The best stories are the ones that fly out of left field and drop some unexpected lunacy in our laps. And when they come from an unexpected source as well? That's double our pleasure. You can only hear so many stories about Biebers and Kardashians before you become a little desensitized.

Kanye problems

There are a lot of delusional celebrities out there. While these people may be talented in their own way, they sometimes have a tendency to overestimate their own importance. You might look good on camera or make decent music, but that doesn't mean that you're necessarily making the world a better place. Wellmaybe in some sort of convoluted metaphorical-type way, but not really.

Just try telling that to Kanye West, though.

Down under blunders

We have a lot of fun at the expense of one Mr. Justin Bieber in this space. But in truth, we mock because we love the guy makes our job ever so much easier on a regular basis. And with a few exceptions, his words and actions are mostly harmless. Really stupid, but harmless.

In truth, one of Bieber's biggest problems seems to be the people with whom he chooses to associate himself. We all remember his Lil buddies Twist and Za who he inexplicably allowed free reign. He let them live in his house, where they threw parties and borrowed his Ferraris and generally acted like some sort of Vincent Chase nightmare.

Love and marriage

There's no disputing that there are numerous striations of fame. You've got that relatively small group of global megastars at the top, the slightly less famous beneath them and so on down the line. Call it trickle-down celebrity.

And at the bottom of the fame food pyramid, you've got the great unwashed masses of spotlight-seekers; the low-rent reality stars and the third-tier musicians and people like that. These are the people who have mined a modicum of notoriety out of some sort of desperate need for attention.

For most people, things like child custody battles are extremely serious. Yes, the accusations tend to fly fast and furious in these situations, but as a rule, the mudslinging stays relatively private and the involved parties adhere to the rules set forth by the court and other ruling bodies.

And then there's Charlie Sheen.

Josh Brawlin'

Celebrity Slam is often populated by famous people who have a drink or three too many and wind up putting themselves in ridiculous situations. When they behave in ways that while not exactly the most savory are generally more embarrassing than endangering, wellthose are our absolute favorites.

The best of all is when these same celebrities manage to pull off not one, but two Slam-worthy adventures in the space of a single evening. Each individual event would be enough for them to grace this page, but they choose instead to keep on keeping on. These are the celebs who really take things to the next level, becoming embroiled in events so absurd that one wouldn't even dream of making them up.

Same old story

There are certain polarizing figures in the celebrity realm that act as lightning rods for our scorn and ire. These famous folks are seemingly incapable of behaving like rational human beings, despite having been reviled for previous actions. Actually it's probably because they simply haven't been reviled enough; these people have come to the not-inaccurate conclusion that as long as they continue to do well at whatever it was that made them famous in the first place, they don't actually have to learn any lessons, no matter what repulsive acts they might commit.

On a related note, Chris Brown is in the news again.

Card-carrying Kardashians

We've taken quite a few shots at the Kardashian family over the years; frankly, they've made it easy. And sure, sometimes we get a little tired of plucking such low-hanging fruit, but the simple truth is that Kim, Kris, Khloe and company say and do a lot of things that put them on our radar.

However, we haven't seen much of the younger siblings. Kendall and Kylie Jenner the biological kids from Kris Kardashian's marriage to Bruce Jenner haven't really been part of the celebrity picturemostly because they've been too young to get up to any real shenanigans.
