Eagre Games showcases ZED' on Oculus Rift

ORONO Game Studio Eagre Games showcased their current project 'ZED' both at the BanGORE Fest in Bangor on Oct. 30 and 31 and at the office located at the Target Technologies Center in Orono using the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset that allows you to experience the game as if you were actually inside it.

'It's a first-person, immersive game. You have to find out what is ZED and why did she create these worlds? What is the purpose of the worlds?' said Chuck Carter of Eagre Games. 'She's a dreamer and you're in her dreamscape. You move from level to level solving basic puzzles and progress by discovering things. The world builds itself around you as you discover new things.'

The game, still in its development phase, is already a rich and immersive experience that promises to be both aesthetically pleasing and mentally stimulating. The world itself is whimsical and surreal, with rich colors and abstract and compelling imagery the giant spinning sun, for instance.

Carter has been inviting people to sample gameplay on the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset that allows the player to interact with the environment as if that person is really there. The player still needs a mouse and keyboard, but whenever you move your head in real life, you move in-game. And 'ZED' is the type of gorgeous game where truly immersing yourself in it is a delightful experience.

'ZED' is still in development and is expected to be ready for release in 2016. Eagre Games is located at the Target Technology Incubator in Orono.

Carter said that the incubator was vital in keeping his game company viable.

'The group of small companies are very supportive of each other. All these guys that are here all know each other. It's a nice community, this little incubator,' he said.
