Weekly Time Waster – ‘SNOK.IO’

A long time ago, before smart phones were even being dreamed about, there was a game that came standard on almost every flip phone. Can you guess which one?

I’ll give you a hint: I’m not talking about “Brick Breaker.” I’m talking about a little game called “Snake.” This game saw you controlling a little pixelated snake-like character, which would get bigger every time you ate a little square. You won the game when you reached max length. You lost if you “crashed” into yourself. It was almost like playing “Tron,” only by yourself.

Well, I’ve found its modern-day successor. I present to you “SNOK.IO.”

The point of “SNOK.IO” is to survive as long as you can and become the longest snake on the playing field. You compete with others who are looking to do the same thing. You must try to stay away from other snake’s tails until you are big enough to set a trap with your own tail. There is food littered throughout the map that makes you larger as you eat it. There is even a boost function that you can use to propel yourself in front of other players, but using this makes your snake get smaller. You win by being the last snake.

This game is really fun and addictive. Every time I failed to survive, I had to try again. I had to prove I could be the best snake that I could be.

“SNOK.IO” is free to play on! Slither forth, my fellow gamers.
