Time Waster - Infectionator: Christmas Edition'

Written by Katy England

This is a fun little game that will gear you up for the holidays. You know, if your holidays are filled with the violent walking dead.

'Infectionator' is a game where you basically release the virus that turns humanity into zombies, with the goal being to infect and kill as many as possible before the threat can be eradicated by law enforcement or the military. That's what the regular game was, and the Christmas Edition really isn't much different. Except this time you're after Santa.

Time Waster - AdVenture Capitalist

Written by Katy England

Incremental games are all the rage now, and I have grown quite the soft spot for them in my time-wasting golden years. They allow you to micromanage as much as you like, and also just let the game go on its merry way for hours and even days, racking up points, candy - or, in this wonderful new iteration, money.

'AdVenture Capitalist' features you as a bright young up-and-comer making money in various fields starting as a humble lemonade stand, but making investments, purchasing new businesses and hiring on managers and eventually getting angel investors.

Time Waster - Pikr

Written by Katy England

This game is simply maddening. Simple and maddening. Also, no fun if you are color blind. It's debatable if it's fun when you can see colors, but you can see for yourself. Or maybe you can't see that's the thing. The whole game is about picking the one color that doesn't belong. Thing is, the differentiation is subtle off by the breath of a shade.

And sometimes you just can't see it.

Time Waster - Bloons Monkey City'

Written by Katy England

Poptastic fun

Tower defense games are fun. I love them because it allows me to strategically place defenses and play a little bit, but then go back to what I was doing previously. No long-term commitment. And one of my all-time favorite tower defense games just came out with a new iteration: 'Bloons: Monkey City.'

Time Waster - Just Type This'

Written by Katy England

Typing games are a fun little diversion, but 'Just Type This' takes the challenge of being nimble on the keyboard to an entirely different level by adding videogame elements to the game play.

Yes, you type, but you are also avoiding falling blocks, spikes and missiles. And you still have to be quick and accurate something that is surprisingly difficult when you start to add a little pressure here and there. Timing is everything, especially when the aforementioned challenges are coming at you.

Growing up I watched 'Perfect Strangers,' for some reason, as kid, I was really fond of the show. It was silly, bordering on random, and I hardly recall much of it outside of the Dance of Joy, Balki and Cousin Larry. But apparently I wasn't the only one who liked it, because it ran for a staggering eight seasons. Eight years! Lordy.

But that's not even the most surprising thing. No, the most surprising thing has to be that someone took the time to make a 3D video game based on the series. I have to give credits to Errant Signal for this find, because it was watching that YouTube channel when he made mention of the game (since the developer has made another indie game that was featured on the YouTube video game review site 'Continue?9876543210').

Time Waster - Cat Petting Simulator'

Written by Katy England

With the clocks set back, freak early snow storms and the general malaise that comes with shorter days finding a game that can lift your spirits is a welcome experience. The 'Cat Petting Simulator' is exactly that a fun, adorable, uplifting game designed specifically to cheer people up.

This text-based adventure games makes you the proud owner of a female, 11-pound, calico cat. You can name her, but the rest of the details stay the same. Your mission is to pet her, and pet her damn good. You get to choose where, and have a mini-cuddle adventure, while also doing small errands (flipping the fries you are cooking in the toaster oven and cleaning up kitty litter).

Time Waster - Idle Evolution'

Written by Katy England

Evolution is a long process; millennia go into it. Well, now you can see how that feels. Kinda.

'Idle Evolution' is what's known as an idle clicker even though in this case there isn't a ton of clicking involved. There is, strangely or maybe not so strangely, a lot of idling. In fact, the more you leave the game alone, the better you'll do. My kind of wasting time.

Time Waster - You have One Chance'

Written by Katy England

In life, there are no 'take-backs,' no quick saves and no quick loads. You only get one chance. As in life, so it is in this pixel game.

You have created the cure for cancer, but in a tragic twist of fate, that cure also will kill all cellular life in six days. You have one chance. No take backs. No reloads.

Time Waster - Alliterate'

Written by Katy England

Word games are awesome if a little frustrating at times. 'Alliterate' is just such a game. You have 60 seconds, and when you click on the field you are given a letter. You have to type correctly as many words as possible that begin with that letter. Every 20 seconds the letter changes (for those of you who are paying attention, that means your letter will change three times per game).

You get points for the complexity of the word, and I believe for uses of troublesome letters like 'x' or 'z.'
