Weekly Time Waster - ‘Silly Walks’

Written by Matt Fern

Here at The Maine Edge, we sure do dig the weird stuff. We find it and we soak it in and we write about it for your reading pleasure. Well, this week, I stumbled upon a time waster that fits in with our love of the weird.

We’ve all seen the Tom Hanks movie “Cast Away” at this point. Man survives a plane crash and wakes up on a desolate island. He has to survive whilst going crazy from being alone. None of us could ever imagine being in such a situation … but we could certainly play a video game about it!

Weekly Time Waster - ‘Jurassic World Alive’

Written by Matt Fern

With the new “Jurassic World” movie hitting screens worldwide, it was only fitting that a game based on the beloved movie franchise would pop up on my radar. Only it wasn't the type of game I was expecting.

It sure was a nice weekend. There was both lots of sun and warmth outside and lots of entertainment on television at night. Over the weekend, I found myself re-watching some of the “Band of Brothers” series. Afterwards, I felt the inclination to find a game that would let me be a WWII armchair general, or at least a war hero. In my search, I stumbled upon “Frontline Commando: D-Day.”

Maritime piracy has been around since the 1500s and it certainly has resulted some of the greatest stories we’ve ever been told. Tales such as that of the crazed Blackbeard and his band of bloodthirsty pirates, participating in ship-to-ship combat, stealing gold and other valuable items. Ships flying the “Jolly Roger” to strike fear in those they chose to prey upon. We’ve even procured the beloved “Pirates of the Caribbean” series from the roots of piracy and its many tales.

This week, we waste some time as pirates in “Pirate Tales: Battle for the Treasure.”

When people hear the words “Friday the 13th,” they think of two things.

The first could be the actual date itself and the stigma attached to it, where you avoid black cats and other various bad luck inducing events that can happen on that day. The other would be the hit horror series we have all come to love with our favorite big screen slasher Jason Voorhees.

Weekly Time Waster - ‘Fishing Strike’

Written by Matt Fern

Spring is here and so is fishing season. Some of us might not have had the time to venture out onto the glistening water to relax in a day of fishing just yet. In the meantime, I may have found an answer for those fishermen.

Weekly Time Waster - ‘The Sims Mobile’

Written by Matt Fern

If you haven't played, or heard of “The Sims” gaming franchise in the last 18 years, you may have been living under a rock. Or perhaps you just aren't into those types of video games. The first installment was created back in the year 2000 as a life simulation game. Based on multiple gaming platforms, we now have a version to play within the palm of our hands.

Weekly Time Waster – ‘MARVEL Strike Force’

Written by Matt Fern

With the release of “Avengers: Infinity War” on the horizon, it only seemed fitting to find a superhero game for this week's Time Waster. Little did I know that Marvel had released a brand new mobile game right before their upcoming entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I give you – “MARVEL Strike Force.”

Weekly Time Waster – ‘Open Panzer’

Written by Matt Fern

A few weeks ago, a coworker and I were talking about some old school strategy games we used to play on our computers. One of my favorites was “Axis and Allies;” you felt like a true military commander with that one. The next day, he showed me a game called “Open Panzer” and I immediately fell in love.
