In our constantly-on-the-go society, smartphones and tablets make it easy to navigate through even the busiest days. If you tend to get lost, travel often or strive to be more efficient, rely on your mobile device as a navigation tool. Whether you're embarking on a road trip, driving to your kids' away games, meeting clients in an unfamiliar area or going on a hike, new 4G LTE mobile devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S Aviator or Samsung Galaxy S Tab 10.1, and the latest GPS technologies will get you there successfully.

Today's smartphones, tablets and GPS technologies are more sophisticated and user-friendly than ever before. Helpful new features include embedded GPS receivers and mapping services, providing real-time position tracking and voice-guided or text directions.

The benefits to navigating with your mobile device include:

  • It's always with you, so you'll have constant access to GPS capabilities.
  • It's mobile - you can use it in your car or a friend's. It's also handy for biking, hiking or walking trips.
  • It provides real-time reports about traffic jams, road construction and accidents and will quickly reroute you around problem areas.
  • You can access the most current maps and directions.
  • You can easily find amenities and points of interest along the way.
  • It's simple to use navigation apps, input addresses and view information on large, clear screens.

A huge (and growing) number of travel apps will help you find your way. The Garmin Nuvi is an indispensable GPS app and Mapquest provides door-to-door directions at your fingertips. Navigating trails, woods and open spaces? Try BackCountry Navigator to find your way outdoors and Compass, which offers location display, geo-tagged notes and more.

GPS options are becoming more sophisticated, and so are the latest smartphones and tablets. The 4G LTE Samsung Galaxy S Aviator and Samsung Tab 10.1 provide faster browsing, sharper HD quality screens and easier multitasking, allowing you to quickly and easily access maps and directions - even while talking on the phone.

To save battery power when using GPS technologies, be sure to bring your car charger - especially for long road trips - and disable the feature when not in use simply by going to your devices settings. Also, U.S. Cellular customers can always take advantage of the companys Battery Swap program, where customers can come into any U.S. Cellular store and change out a dead or dying battery for a fully-charged one, for free. Just stop by any local U.S. Cellular store.

U.S. Cellular offers the first 4G LTE service to Mainers, allowing for faster web browsing and speedy app downloads that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and similar to a cable Internet connection, which is great for real-time GPS navigation. The 4G LTE network through U.S. Cellular is also the only 4G LTE network with unique benefits, such as a valuable rewards program that recognizes customer loyalty, earlier phone upgrades, new phones faster without continuously signing contracts, and free incoming calls, texts and picture messages. U.S. Cellulars high-speed nationwide network has the highest call quality and network satisfaction of any national carrier.

Smartphone users who want help finding and downloading apps or have other questions about their device can attend a free U.S. Cellular Device Workshop. Associates guide attendees through all of the features and functions of their devices, and help them personalize their phones to enhance their lives. Attendees do not have to be U.S. Cellular customers. Upcoming workshops include:

  • Saturday, June 16 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at 403 Wilson Street in Brewer.
  • Saturday June 30 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at 33 Mid Mall Boulevard in Bangor.
