Maine Civic Hack Day comes to Bangor, Portland

BANGOR The Maine Hacker Club, with support from the City of Bangor, University of Maine, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, Sutherland Weston Marketing Communications, Links Website Design and other groups, will hold a Maine Civic Hack Day in coordination with the National Day of Civic Hacking. This unique event, held June 1 and 2 in Bangor and Portland, brings together community members, software developers and both the public and private sectors to use technology to attempt to solve community problems.

Participants will have the opportunity to work in teams to address civic issues using open source data and public information, combined with their innovation and engineering skill. Hosted at the offices of Eastern Maine Development Corporation, 40 Harlow Street, the Bangor group will be participating as one of many simultaneous events across the country collectively known as the National Day of Civic Hacking. 'For the Bangor area, The National Civic Hacking Day is about growing our local community with technology. It is a day to recognize achievements, show off individual ideas and connect with other civic hackers nationwide who are using their skills to make our cities and this country great,' said Jeff Courtney, Information Services administrator for the City of Bangor. 'The City of Bangor is excited to support National Civic Hacking Day in our local area, and we look forward to reviewing the feedback generated from this national event.'
