They have made some free agent signings aimed at altering the franchise's trajectory and halting the downward spiral they've been in for the past couple of years. Major League Baseball's offseason is often filled with intrigue and surprises as assorted free agents sign with new teams and blockbuster trades are made. The winter of 2012 has been no different thus far as some of the game's big names and elite talents will be doing their thing from new zip codes come April.

This year's two biggest free agents were an interesting pair; two immense talents who have each dealt with their fair share of adversity both on and off the field.
