Radius Raid'

'Radius Raid' is an amazingly fun and addictive space-shooter that you will have a hard time tearing yourself away from. This is a game that has an utterly classic feel to it, like 'Space Invaders' or 'Centipede.' You are a simple ship that fires tiny lasers at circles of various colors, sizes and desire to kill you.

Cube Escape: Birthday'

Continuing the haunting series of 'Cube Escape' games, Rusty Lake has put out another free escape game on the heels of the 'Rusty Lake Hotel' game which you can buy in the app store, on Steam or via their website ( This latest release brings you into the past of the recurring character Dale Vandermeer, who first appeared in 'Cube Escape: Case 23.'

You are placed in the point of view of young Dale, who is enjoying his ninth birthday party with his parents and grandfather when things go suddenly and horribly wrong. But does the darkness need to remain?

Blacksmith Lab'

'Blacksmith Lab' is a clicker game, but though it does have an idle mode, you are best served when you are actively playing it. You own a smithy, and your goal is to make things, fill orders and upgrade your smith so you can upgrade and fill more orders.

All the while there are other things going on in the world, like thieves that steal your money, investments you can make in town, gifts you can receive and so on. The more you actively play, the more you can do things like put out literal fires in your forge or take advantage of lower risk investments at the bank but you can't do those things if you are just forging idly in the background.

Kongregate's Best Games of 2015

These weekly wastes of precious time are incredibly fun for me to seek out and enjoy long enough to put forth a decent review, whether that involves playing games, watching a YouTube series or finding that odd webpage.

One of my favorite Flash game sites is Kongregate. Some people don't like to play games on sites I do. For me, playing on my work computer, when I play on a site like Kongregate, Armor Games or NewGrounds, I feel more secure. Additionally, they have meta-games. You can earn points, level up, get badges and, in the case of Kongregate, Kongpanions little pets that are cute. A game about playing games is nothing new. But Kongregate took it a new level with their Best of 2015, encouraging players to fill in badges they may have missed last year at the beginning of this one.

Small Worlds'

There is too much noise.

-'Small Worlds'

This is a short and beautiful pixel exploration game. Your character is nothing more than a sprite, so things are so zoomed in they seem blocky and distorted. As you explore, the camera zooms out to give you a better view on the world, and things come into focus.

Reach the Core'

'Reach the Core' is a fun upgradeable game where you are trying to reach the core of a planet with your remote mining machine to get fuel that your ship needs to keep on trucking. Unlike many 'launch' games, where you propel your avatar as high as can, 'Reach the Core' is different and superior in many ways.

It's less about simple blast physics, or hitting the sweet spot on takeoff, and more about managing your mining bot's battery power and gathering the blocks you need while avoiding or strategically destroying threads in the forms of burrowing insects, mines and lasers (though it is unclear how the lasers function underground they just do). Some of the lasers target your health, others will simply drain your battery, but the end result is the same. If you run out of power, or your drill runs out of health, you have to return to recharge or repair.
