The Edge at 15: Favorite sports stories

While it isn’t my primary beat, I’ve spilled plenty of ink writing about sports over the years. While most of it consists of middling-to-poor predictions and getting demolished by my football-picking dog, I’ve had a few standout stories in my time, pieces that have stayed with me long after they’ve been filed.

It’s an interesting mix, to be sure – a few interviews and the like, but for the most part, my favorite sports-related stories have been participatory ones. These are stories where I was able to share a direct experience with the reader, be it from the point of view of a spectator or from right there in the midst of it all.

The Edge at 15: A few interview highlights

Among the many joys brought forth by celebrating this kind of anniversary is the opportunity to look back and remember the highlights. And over the course of 15 years, well – there are going to be some highlights.

You’ve already seen a number of these pieces in this edition – music stories, sports stories, author interviews – so what’s one more, right?

Now, some of these others have featured interview stories, but for this list, I wanted to engage with the interviews that I loved and remembered, but that also didn’t quite fit into any of the aforementioned categories.

The list includes an author who wasn’t talking about his books, a few of comedians and an entertainment icon – got some honorable mentions in there as well. It’s fascinating to think about these conversations now, remembering how excited I was to book them, how nervous I was to execute them and how proud I was to write them.

The Edge at 15: Favorite literary interviews

We love books here at The Maine Edge. We love reading them and reviewing them, of course, but we especially love speaking to the people who write them.

Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to speak to some truly incredible authors, speaking to them about whatever their latest book might be, sure, but also about their bodies of work, their processes and whatever else might tickle their (or our) fancies.

Here’s a look back at some of the highlights.
