Living it up with lawn games

A few summertime favorites to enjoy in your very own backyard

With Memorial Day behind us, we can start looking forward to the full onset of summer. It has been a long cold winter and a less-than-ideal spring one has to think that Mother Nature owes us a decent summer experience, right? Time will tell.

Poolside hair

With all the great weather this summer, have you or your kids spent a lot of time in the pool? How is it treating your hair? If you or your kiddos have lighter hair, you may notice a green tinge before summer is over. Blondes definitely notice this more than other hair colors. It usually grabs onto the driest part of the hair, which is the ends. The last few weeks of summer, before school starts, I get a lot of panicked phone calls of how to get the green out of hair. The good news? There are ways to prevent it and ways to get rid of it.

Leave-in conditioner is your best friend this summer. The sunshine and chemicals in the pool (especially the public pools) really dries our hair out. Adding a leave-in conditioner to your routine will help to prevent that. I personally love Paul Mitchell The Conditioner. It works great and is not heavy. You can even use it on your skin! Before you head to the beach or jump in the pool, run some through your hair to help with color fading and to protect your strands from chlorine (focus on the ends of your hair). If you are spending the whole day in the water, just re-apply the conditioner as often as you do sunscreen.

Summer must haves

After last week's heat, I think it is safe to say that summer is here for good. We all know how quickly a summer in Maine goes by, so let's not spend all kinds of time doing our hair and makeup and getting ready. Get outside and soak it up while you can. Here are some quick and easy tips to simplify your hair and makeup routine this summer.

Nothing says summer like a few blonde highlights. Nothing can leave you feeling brighter inside and out. But all the lightener that is leaving you with a great new look is just the beginning of the beating your hair starts to take as the weather gets warmer. Sun exposure and chlorine wreak havoc on your hair. This is the time when you should be protecting your hair at home by adding a leave-in conditioner to your routine to replenish the moisture you are losing this summer. I also recommend scheduling an in-salon intensive hair repair treatment. Paul Mitchell recently came out with their Awaphui Wild Ginger KeraTriplex intensive in-salon treatment that is amazing! It will leave your hair 80 percent stronger after the first treatment and really does help to repair dry or split ends. This treatment offers intense strengthening, moisture and shine to transform your dry, damaged hair.
