Just a bad day

OLD TOWN Police say a man who was being fired also ended up being arrested after his employers suspected he was under the influence of an illegal substance.

Just after noontime on June 12, Officer Brent Fournier was called to the Old Town Fuel and Fiber Mill at the employers' request. They told the officer that they were going to terminate the employment of Joshua Hall, 33, of Charleston, because they suspected he was under the influence. They had called police because they were concerned that Hall might attempt to drive while intoxicated, according to police.

Teen arrested after manhunt

TRENTON An area 16-year-old was arrested after a manhunt involving scores of police officers from a half dozen agencies when it was suspected he may have been armed.

The teen, who was not identified due to his age, was reported missing by his parents at around 1 p.m. on June 7. Police learned he had not been to school, and authorities were notified when his parents returned home to find the house in disarray. Police were told that he may have had a .40-caliber handgun in his possession. 

Police call attempted kidnapping bizarre'

BOWDINHAM Maine State Police say a New Hampshire man remains behind bars following a bizarre incident last week in Bowdoinham in which he allegedly tried to kidnap a two-year-old boy from his grandmother at a commuter lot along Interstate 295.

James Graham, 30, a former Maine resident who currently lives in Newmarket, N.H., is being held in lieu of bail at the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset on charges of attempted kidnapping and assault. Police say Graham was taken into custody on May 22 along the Interstate south of Brunswick after police were called by the victim's mother and grandmother who reported the incident.

Officers graduate from Criminal Justice Academy

VASSALBORO Maine's newest police officers have graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.  The 42 new officers from the state, county and municipal ranks have completed 18 weeks of study and training in the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP).

 Among the many topics that the new officers studied were criminal and traffic law, firearms, domestic violence, first aid, emergency vehicle operation, crime scene processing and sexual assault. The graduation speaker was the Chief Judge of the Maine District Courts, Charles LaVerdiere.

Bangor police seek person of interest

BANGOR Authorities are trying to identify a man who is a person of interest in a burglary complaint where a credit card was stolen. 

On April 23, Bangor police responded to a Valley View residence to the report of a burglary. It was learned that an unknown suspect or suspects entered the home while the victim slept and stole items including at least one credit card. 

Police released a photo of a person of interest involved with the credit card and are trying to identify him. Anyone with information about the man's identity should call Bangor Police Officer Brian Smith at 947-7382. Callers may remain anonymous by pressing 6 to use the Tip Line.

Burglaries spur police to seek assistance

BREWER Authorities are investigating recent burglaries of vacant and abandoned properties for the purposes of copper theft. To help stem further incidents, police are asking for the public's help in reporting suspicious activity in and around vacant and abandoned homes and businesses.

Copper thieves often target abandoned properties to remove copper piping and wires and sell the material to metal recyclers and scrap yards. Once the copper has been removed from the property, it is very difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the material in question has been stolen, which makes prosecuting copper thieves very difficult.
Police are urging witnesses to call 911 to report suspicious activity in and around vacant and abandoned properties. Some things to watch out for include:

Domestic violence homicide

BANGOR Bangor Police arrested David Coon, 50, of Bangor, for domestic violence homicide after the results of an autopsy. The cause of death is being withheld at this time.

Coon is charged with murdering the 49-year-old woman he was living with. Police were called to their Jefferson Street apartment on May 3, where a caller reported the woman had difficulties breathing. When police and rescue arrived they found the woman dead.

Maine State Police seek Jamie Cox

ELLSWORTH Maine State Police are seeking the public's help in locating Jamie L. Cox, 36, of Stonington, who is wanted for sexual contact with a teenage girl. Cox was indicted earlier this month by the Hancock County Grand Jury. He faces three felony counts of unlawful sexual contact. 

Cox is 5-foot 10-inches tall, weighs about 200 pounds and has blue eyes and light brown hair. Police think he is still in greater Hancock County area, likely staying with friends.

BANGOR A woman has been charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing $1,700 worth of goods from Wal-Mart on Stillwater Ave in Bangor. 

On April 4, 2013, Officer Dan Sanborn was dispatched to the Wal-Mart where employees reported that a woman, later identified as Linda Haines, 45, of Bangor, had wheeled a cart full of items past an assistant manager, loaded them in her car and then drove away. The assistant manager caught up with Haines and discovered she had left her purse at the bottom of the cart. It contained her driver's license.
