As the air gets cooler, the names get bigger. The music industry is banking on some highly anticipated fourth-quarter releases to wrap the year on a high note. Here’s a rundown of some of November’s most eagerly awaited new albums.  

A farewell and a comeback are among the pack of new music releases being readied for September. 

“This ain’t your mama’s solo Chris Ross record,” Ross told me last week of “Over Lonesome,” the second album recorded by Chris Ross & the North.  The disc is set for release on June 2 and will coincide with an album release concert scheduled for that evening at Bar Harbor’s historic Criterion Theatre.  

The labels are bringing out the big guns this fall and expectations are high that some of their biggest selling artists will wrap the year on a high note. Here's our second installment of new fall releases from veteran music-makers.

2012 has been a good year for music so far. Here's a look at some of my favorites from the past few weeks.

Regina Spektor 'What We Saw From the Cheap Seats' Sire Records

Born in Russia and raised on classic 60s and 70s rock, Spektor moved to New York with her family at age 9 and soon began making up songs about her life and the world around her - a trait that the classically trained pianist has perfected over six albums.

Her best work to date, 'What We Saw From The Cheap Seats' offers instantly accessible, endlessly melodic songs that unfold with a mosaic of unique sounds. From the island-infused 'Don't Leave Me' to 'Oh Marcello,' which quotes The Animals' 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood,' 'Cheap Seats' is the sound of an artist at the top of her game.
