Time Waster - Where is Cat'

This is a charming puzzle game that was developed by children.

As you might expect, you have to find the cat. Once you have done that in several screens, you have to find other things for the cat: dishes, cups, cupcakes. All of the items you subsequently find were in those original rooms when you found the cat the first time, but you may have overlooked them.

Many people over the years have told us that we are blessed for having three kids at the same time. And it's true for all the craziness yelling, teasing, bickering and whining there is lots to be thankful for. Here's a few things.

Group hugs When I pick up the kids from school, there are raucous calls of 'Mama!' followed immediately by almost flying-tackle style hugs from the girls.

Jessica Jones'

Not quite as boring as the name implies

I wanted to like Netflix's new original series 'Jessica Jones' and I think I did, but it took a little time. Forty minutes, to be precise. Once I got past that mark in the pilot episode, things really started to get interesting.

Giving to good health

The importance of healthy food donations

BANGOR Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season and also inspires people to open their hearts and pantries to those who are in need. Food drives abound, and many supermarkets offer customers a chance to purchase gifts for those who find themselves in need. The Center for Disease Control and the City of Bangor's Health Department are trying to raise awareness to increase the nutritive value of donated food to food pantries across the city and state.

Time Waster - Swords and Souls'

'Swords and Souls' is a fun fighting game from Armor Games. You design your 'soul' (your character) and then fight in the arena to earn enough soul credits to get out (and buy sweet gear, design your house and improve your training studio). Your avatar fights various baddies from town guards to goblins in the arena. This is your main source of income when you beat the boss at the end of each battle, you get a chest filled with experience, potions, spells and more.

One of the best features is the training studio. This has five mini-games that level you up, give you a chance to win four-leaf-clovers, and are actually fun. As you get better, you can take on bigger baddies and unlock new skills and talents that you can invest points in. The mini-games are fun and challenging. Some of the combos require a high level of skill on the part of the player more than you'll typically use in the arena, so it's nice to have the challenge without feeling like a giant loser.

Counting blessings

We all get into routines it's how we go through life. Kids, as countless websites will tell you, love routines. But so do adults. And when they're interrupted, it makes life complicated.

Well, my routines were interrupted by a car accident the week before last. I won't go into details other than to say everyone is more or less OK and the kids weren't in the car (hooray!). But boy, doesn't that just ruin your normal routine. Even with no major injuries, being sore and exhausted (didn't get home until the wee hours) was going to make the weekend a bit of a trial. You know who doesn't care if you're sore and tired? Three 4-year-olds.

Book signing on Nov. 21

BANGOR For 70 years, Frank's Bake Shop has been an anchor on the Bangor scene. The family owned and operated store has been serving up tasty treats and filling meals for decades. And though many are familiar with the name, they may not know the whole story. But that has been remedied by 'Where Good Means the BEST: 70 Years at Frank's Bake Shop' by Brian Swartz ($9.99, Maine Origins Publications).
