United Way hopes to collect more than 15,000 pounds of food throughout the spring

BANGOR Hollywood Casino played host to the kick off for the United Way's 7th annual Pantry Project. The goal for United Way is to collect more than 15,000 pounds of food between now and the end of April, which will provide more than 12,500 meals.

For the sixth consecutive year, Hollywood Casino kicked off the initiative by recruiting local artist Allison Strange to assemble a holiday-themed winter scene made entirely out of canned goods. This year, Strange made 'Babe the Blue Ox' out of cans of tuna and packages of coffee. The roughly 1,400 cans of soup used in the project are being donated by Hollywood Casino to kick off the 2016 Pantry Project.

BANGOR Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway, Bangor, has issued a check for $2,452 to the Maine Dept. of Agriculture's Animal Welfare Program to be used in the newly-established Standardbred Welfare Support Fund. Hollywood Casino earlier this year announced plans to contribute $1 per starter each racing season, starting this year. The $2,452 check represents $1 for each horse starting at Hollywood Casino's Bangor Raceway between May 4 and July 20, 2013.

"It feels good to be able to contribute to this fund," said Mike Hopkins, manager of Raceway Operations at Hollywood Casino, Bangor. "Standardbred horses are beautiful animals, and they are such an important part of this operation. It's a sad reality that these animals will sometimes need help finding a home that is safe and healthy. This fund will bring the animal to that home, and it's an awfully good cause."

Fireball Run races to completion in Bangor

Eight day road rally crosses finish line at Hollywood Casino racetrack

BANGOR - Car shows are a popular summer pastime in Maine, and this weekend Bangor hosted a show unlike any other. Fierce Ferraris, muscular Mustangs, lovely Lamborghinis, cruising Corvettes and dashing DeLoreans zoomed into the Queen city, the finish line for the 2012 Fireball Run adventure rally on Saturday afternoon, turning heads on every street they traveled.

"That was amazing. I had thoughts in my head how it would be, but to spend that many days with the same people traveling across the United States, we got to see amazing things that a lot of people wouldn't get to see and do in a race situation," explained "Timber Tina" Scheer of the Bangor Riverdrivers.

BANGOR The Susan G. Komen Maine Race for the Cure - Bangor and Survivor Sponsor Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway are proud to honor Survivor of the Week Jane Sawyer of Brewer.

Sawyer's breast cancer was found by her gynecologist during a clinical breast exam. 'I had been having mammograms regularly for nearly 10 years, and I had had a mammogram just several months before,' said Sawyer. 'I think women should use every available avenue. Symptoms aren't always there. If I hadn't gone to my doctor for a yearly checkup, if I hadn't allowed my doctor to check my breasts a procedure which women can simply say no to my cancer may have been stage three when it was found instead of stage two.'

The Grand commits a Love Crime'

ELLSWORTH - The Grand's hot new film program CineGrand begins its annual Summer French Film series with 'Love Crime,' starring Ludivine Sagnier ('Swimming Pool,' 'Love Songs') and Kristin Scott Thomas ('Tell No One,' 'The English Patient') on Thursday, June 28 through Saturday, June 30 at 7 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. It's French night all weekend long, as The Grand celebrates hot French films in the summertime.

'Love Crime,' the last film from Alain Corneau, director of the acclaimed "Tous les Matins du Monde," echoes both "All About Eve" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley" in a story of the deadly one-upsmanship between two women in a multinational corporation. Ruthless executive Christine (Thomas) brings on Isabelle (Sagnier) as her assistant, and she takes delight in toying with the young woman's innocence. But when the protg's ideas become tempting enough for Christine to pass on as her own, she underestimates Isabelle's ambition and cunning, and the ground is set for all out war. Soon to be remade as an English language thriller by Brian DePalma ('Dressed To Kill,' 'Carrie') as 'Passion,' 'Love Crime' is a great Gallic thriller in the tradition of 'Tell No One' and 'Diabolique.'
