HALLOWELL On Sunday, Feb. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m., Hallowell's Cultural Committee is hosting the second All Ages Open Jam Session at Hallowell City Hall Auditorium, 1 Winthrop Street in Hallowell led by Adam Soosman and Roger Sampson, both instructors at Musician's First Choice Music School.

18th annual juried art show at the Harlow Gallery

HALLOWELL - The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2013, the 18th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. Art2013 is open to all Maine artists and also to artists with a strong connection to Maine. This year's jurors are Bob Keyes and Dan Kany, both arts writers at the Portland Press Herald.

Over $1,500 in cash prizes and gift certificates from area business sponsors will be awarded at an awards ceremony at the exhibition's opening on Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. Art2013 the exhibition will be on view May 10 to June 1, 2013 and is free and open to the public.

Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including hand pulled prints, photography and sculpture and fine crafts, including ceramics, glass and fiber art. Jewelry and clothing are not eligible. Each artist may submit up to three works of art. Entry fees ($25 for members of the Kennebec Valley Art Association, or $30 for non-members) are not refundable. The Harlow Gallery is owned and operated by the Kennebec Valley Art Association, membership-based 501(c)3 non-profit; jurying fees help offset the cost of organizing and presenting the juried show and are not refundable. Decisions of the jurors are final.

The deadline for electronic submissions is midnight on April 1, 2013. The jurors will do a first review based on the digital submissions. Artists whose work they wish to consider for the final review will be asked to deliver their work to the Harlow Gallery April 27-29 for a final viewing of the actual work.

HALLOWELL - On Sunday, Dec. 2, local artist Claudia Brahms will teach a printmaking workshop at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water Street in Hallowell. The workshop time is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost is $40 for members of the Kennebec Valley Art Association or $45 for non-members, plus a $15 materials fee. HALLOWELL The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites the community to attend the opening reception of 8x10x100 on Friday, Nov. 30, 5-8 p.m. at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water Street in Hallowell. 8x10x100 will be on view through Dec. 8. It is ending on the day of Christmas in Olde Hallowell Saturday, Dec. 8. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., and special Sunday hours for this show only are noon to 4 p.m.

HALLOWELL - A lot can happen in the course of one year, and there is no exception for what has taken place at 184 Water Street in Hallowell Maine. In the last year, nine talented artists have set up studio space creating drawings, paintings, music, small sculptures and animations while engaging the greater community of Hallowell. On Friday, Nov. 30, Independence Association invites the community to celebrate the first anniversary of SpinOff Studio and the success of nine talented artists. There will be live acoustic music and light refreshments and a lot of fantastic art on display.

HALLOWELL The community has a lunch date with artists. The Harlow Gallery, SpinOff Studio and Spindleworks have teamed up to present Lunch with an Artist. Every fourth Wednesday, the public can bring lunch and chat with local artists.

'[Lunch with an Artist] developed out of a program we've been doing at Spindleworks, our big-sister program in Brunswickm' said Jonathan Price, team leader of SpinOff Studios. 'They kind of just started this event where they invited different artists in once in awile and would buy them lunch. They'd have a casual lunch and the artist would share their work and have a group discussion and you could learn about the artists and different mediums.'

They decided to kick off a similar program at SpinOff Studio in Hallowell, teaming up with the Harlow Art Gallery. The first lunch was with Scott Minzy in February and was so popular that there was standing room only. The March 28 lunch, which is being held at the larger Harlow Gallery features Hazel Mitchell, a children's book illustrator who resides in Maine. This goes hand-in-hand with the Harlow Gallery's Youth Art Month, with exhibits from students in grades K through 12.
