Kibbles and Picks 2016 Week 4

Slow and steady wins the race. At least, I hope so.

Week 3 wasn't a great one for either Stella or I, but it was ever-so-slightly better for me. I managed a 9-7 record on last week's slate, while she went 8-8; in essence, we simply flip-flopped our Week 2 records, leaving Stella with the same three-game lead she had after the opening week.

Kibbles and Picks 2016 Week 3

All things considered, it could have been worse.

Things looked good for me going into the last few games last week where I promptly finished with three straight losses. I wound up going 8-8 overall; not bad for a week featuring so many surprises.

Kibbles and Picks 2016 - Week 2

To those right-minded folks out there who predicted that Stella's quest for three out of four would start fast and furious (furry-ous?) well done.

The Sports Edge Different players, different rules

I had a hard time watching the NFL'sThursdaynight opener.

Not just because they puked so much pre-kickoff pat-themselves-on-the-back pageantry on their fresh-from-the-box cleats (although that certainly didn't help). No, it was the sad, simple fact that the referees have taken on one of the worst habits of NBA officials - and it's impacting the game just as severely.

Kibbles and Picks 2016 - Week 1

It would seem that I'm a glutton for punishment.

Kibbles and Picks is back for its fourth year. For those unfamiliar, Kibbles and Picks is a battle of prognosticative powers between myself and my dog Stella. Each week, she and I will pick the winners of each game on the NFL slate. We will tally the totals and hopefully I will manage to outperform the pup.

The 2016 National Football League season is upon us. In fact, many of you reading this may have already seen at least some of the first weekend of games the initial match-up takes place on Sept. 8 between last year's Super Bowl 50 foes, the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.

The Sports Edge #Hunters

The #Hunters hashtag was adopted not long after Joe Harasymiak was named as the head coach of University of Maine Black Bear football, becoming the youngest Division I coach in the country at age 29. It was clear from day one that the former defensive coordinator was going to bring the aggressive, confident approach that has been a hallmark of the 'Black Hole' defense to the entire team.

The Sports Edge The most wonderful time

The recent cool, damp weekend was a friendly reminder that the dog days of summer will soon be making way for fall and everything that goes with that in Maine. Some tend to view the autumn as a harbinger of what follows; I prefer to take a deep breath of that chilly morning air and celebrate what I think of as the best our state has to offer.

Say it ain't so, Tom

The Tom Brady saga appears to finally be over, ending not with a bang but with a whimper.

The future Hall of Famer opted to take his four game vacation and move on with his life, perhaps understanding that as time went on, this case became less about him and more about the ongoing power struggle between the commissioner's office and the NFL Players Association.
