Celebrity Slam - Mar. 27, 2013

Say it ain't so, Franco!

We think we know celebrities. We're constantly deluged with information about them, even outside their various film, television and music projects. All that data comes together and paints a picture of the famous that seems to be reliable in a general sense. We don't necessarily know specifics of their personal lives, but their professional ones seem relatively clear.

But then something happens that completely turns your worldview upside down. Such an event recently took place involving actor James Franco.

A blast from the past

Unearthed time capsule offers look at the Edge's predecessors

BANGOR The Maine Edge has been part of this area's cultural fabric for the past six years. What you may not know is that there have been previous incarnations of our fair periodical that have come and gone throughout Bangor's past. Unfortunately, all records of these past publications have heretofore been lost to the mists of history until now.

During the construction of the new Cross Insurance Center, a time capsule was unearthed. No record of this capsule's interment could be found, though our best research indicates that its burial coincided roughly with the onset of construction of the Bangor Auditorium.

A meeting of the Mayan minds

A panel discussion of what 12/21/12 might hold

EDITOR'S NOTE: (This story is from The Maine Edge's annual April Fools Day edition. As such, you can safely assume that most of it - if not all of it - is totally made-up.)

Over the past few years, we've been hearing a lot about 2012 and the Mayan calendar. The calendar deemed by many experts to be one of history's most accurate apparently comes to an end this year. As near as can be determined, that end date is Dec. 21 of this year. What will happen on that date is the matter of some conjecture. Some of the most brilliant minds in the world have devoted their lives to trying to crack the Mayan code.

The mainstream media has long been sweeping this story under the rug, either ignoring it completely or worse, turning it into a mockery. Make no mistake; something WILL happen on Dec. 21, 2012 and The Maine Edge wants you to be as informed as possible when it does.
