Going Bowling 2017
It's that time of year again - that time when I use every bit of knowledge I have accumulated in another season of college football semi-fandom in a Quixotic attempt to predict the winners of every bowl game.
I've had some success in the past, but make no mistake - I have no idea what I'm doing.
It's a chance to see some college football teams that you know nothing about. You never know if you might stumble upon a game where something unprecedented takes place – in fact, I (along with my good friend Jason Preble) have a long history of stumbling onto the wildest, most unexpectedly entertaining bowl matchups of each season. I expect more of the same this year.
And with that - let's go bowling.
Calling football at Fenway Park
BOSTON - When you talk about the iconic stadiums in football history, places like Lambeau Field, the Rose Bowl and “The Horseshoe” at Ohio State come to find. Fenway Park would rank near the top of any list of similar baseball venues, but many forget that the home of the Green Monster has also hosted football since, well … before the Green Monster.
The Sports Edge – It’s a family affair
One of the most overused cliches in sports is “this team is a family”. Every team seems to throw that out there but it rarely rings true. However, this past weekend I got to see an example of not only a team, but a program that truly is a family.

The Sports Edge Exceeding Standards
Last Saturday, the season ended for the University of Maine football team with a disappointing 24-21 loss at home to the New Hampshire Wildcats. The game marked the 14th time in 15 meetings that the Cats have won the rivalry game, offering the Bears only a fleeting glance at the elusive Brice-Cowell Musket as they raised it aloft in celebration.
The Sports Edge - Some big game #Hunters
Not long after becoming the youngest Division I head football coach in America, Joe Harasymiak began using the #Hunters hashtag in social media conversations about his Black Bears team. More than just a slogan, it was a way of doing business for coaches and players alike, with the clear message that they had specific goals in mind and would be determined in that quest.
The Sports Edge #Hunters
The #Hunters hashtag was adopted not long after Joe Harasymiak was named as the head coach of University of Maine Black Bear football, becoming the youngest Division I coach in the country at age 29. It was clear from day one that the former defensive coordinator was going to bring the aggressive, confident approach that has been a hallmark of the 'Black Hole' defense to the entire team.

Rich Kimball and Bob Lucy enter 20th season calling UMaine football
ORONO On September 1, the University of Maine Black Bear football team will travel to Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies.
The Sports Edge The most wonderful time
The recent cool, damp weekend was a friendly reminder that the dog days of summer will soon be making way for fall and everything that goes with that in Maine. Some tend to view the autumn as a harbinger of what follows; I prefer to take a deep breath of that chilly morning air and celebrate what I think of as the best our state has to offer.

A casual fan predicts all 35 bowl games
The college football regular season has come to a conclusion. It's all about the bowl games now 35 of them in all. That means 70 different teams are looking to end their season with a victory. Some have more to play for than others, but every single one of these teams is looking to go out with a bang.
As a casual fan, I don't claim any special knowledge regarding most of these games. After hours of exhaustive research, the only thing I can say with any certainty is this:
Your guess is as good as mine.
