CMCA announces 2016 exhibition schedule

ROCKLAND - The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) is pleased to announce its 2016 exhibition schedule atthe art center's new campus at 21 Winter Street, Rockland, Maine. CMCA's striking new building, designed by internationally acclaimed architect Toshiko Mori andconstructed by Cold Mountain Builders, will open to the public onJune 26, 2016. Three compelling solo exhibitions of work by artists Jonathan Borofsky, Alex Katz, and Rollin Leonard kick off the inaugural season. Late summer exhibitions will showcase the work of Don Voisine and Lauren Henkin, followed by the 2016 CMCA Biennial in the fall. The new facility provides more than 5,500 square feet of exceptional gallery space for the presentation of work by contemporary artists. The 11,500-square-foot facility includes three exhibition galleries (one of which doubles as a lecture hall/performance space), a gift shop, an ArtLab classroom, and a 2,200-square-foot courtyard.

ArtLab for All Ages: Stamp N' Stomp

ROCKLAND The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) invites you to create and experiment with original stamps on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at CMCA's temporary South End location, 218 Main Street, Rockland. Bring your family or come on your own from 2 to 4 p.m. for ArtLab's 'Stamp n' Stomp.' You'll design an assortment of stamps with a plentitude of uses to tote home with you for the winter months ahead. Try your hand at both low-relief stamps and large-scale mono prints. Children, adults and families are welcome. ArtLab is free of charge and open to all.

CMCA 2012 Biennial Artists announced

ROCKPORT - The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport has announced the list of artists for the CMCA 2012 Biennial Exhibition. Co-curators Suzette McAvoy, director of CMCA; and Daphne Anderson Deeds, an independent curator from Connecticut, have chosen 17 artists for the exhibition.

'There were 415 artists who submitted to the 2012 Biennial and more than 3,350 individual works in a wide range of mediums,' said McAvoy. 'After thorough review and much difficult decision making, Daphne and I ultimately selected ten artists from the open submissions and invited seven others to participate.'

The seven invited artists are Tom Butler, Rockland; Lauren Fensterstock, Portland; Cassie Jones, Brunswick; Luc Demers, Portland; Lisa Kellner, Rangeley; David Stess, Cherryfield; and Kitty Wales, Vinalhaven.

The 10 selected artists are Kenny Cole, Monroe; Grace DeGenarro, Yarmouth; Lynda Litchfield, Cape Elizabeth; Robin Mandel, Cushing; James Marshall, Brunswick; Jonathan Mess, Jefferson; Benjamin Potter, Belfast; Kate Russo, Rockland; Aaron Stephen, Portland; and Erik Wiesenburger, South Portland
