According to Magic Valley Times News, Whole Foods Market will be phasing Chobani Greek Yogurt off their shelves in early 2014. Whole Foods Market claims to be 'America's healthiest grocery store,' and is dropping Chobani 'in order to make more fridge space for smaller brands, specifically organic brands, and those that do not contain GMOs,' according to Time.

Genetically modified organisms, or 'GMOs' are, according to Non-GMO Project, 'plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology.'

Chobani claimed that the company only uses natural ingredients in its yogurt, but recently came under fire, according to KMVT-TV, for using milk that comes from cows fed with GMO animal feed. 

Peter McGuinness, Chobani's chief marketing and brand officer, wants to make it clear that Whole Foods decision to take Chobani off their shelves wasn't due to GMO use. 'There is not enough organic milk supply to meet our broad consumer demand,' McGuinness said. 'It's a supply challenge. It is a dairy industry problem - not a GMO issue.'

According to Magic Valley Times News, Chobani's founder, Hamdi Ulukay, said that Whole Foods' 370 stores are not a significant part of the yogurt maker's sales.  He continued to say that he would love for [Chobani] to be available everywhere, but it won't hurt their business. Nikky Raney, a Bangor resident, agrees. 

'I know that Chobani being removed from the shelves of Whole Foods won't really hurt them as a company because they'll still be making money. People buy their food at other grocery stores. It is upsetting, however, that Chobani uses milk from cows that eat genetically modified corn and soybeans.  But with all the other processed foods out there it's not surprising that they do in order to produce mass quantities.'
