Just do it

Nostalgia runs in cycles, usually around a generation (20 years or so) behind, as people advancing into middle adulthood start in with wistful remembrances of their youth. So it should come as no surprise that 90s memories are surging toward the pop culture forefront.

Sometimes, however, those memories go next-level and offer up some absolutely whackadoo, so-bizarre-they-must-be-true-type stories.

Baldwin blows his top - again

We all knew that it was just a matter of time before noted paparazzi hater Alec Baldwin made another appearance in this space. While a majority of celebrities have issues with the bottom-feeding flash-poppers, Baldwin manages to hate on them more than most.

But now, there's a rumor that he might have gone too far.

Brown vs. Drake

I for one thought the days of the old-school beef were dead and gone. In this age of constant connection and social media, so much of the disrespect that needed to be dished out face to face can now be done instantly via the power of the internet. Hip-hop hatred has become a thing that is confined to the computer screen more often than not.

But then we get something like last week's incident between Chris Brown and Drake and we're reminded that while words can hurt, thrown bottles usually hurt more.

It all went down on the night of June 13. Brown and Drake were both in attendance at a club called W.i.P. in New York City. Specifics are sketchy everyone has a different story but the general gist seems to be that Brown's and Drake's respective entourages got into a full-on brawl in the club. Said brawl involved bottles being thrown and innocent bystanders getting swept up into (and injured by) the melee, including an Australian model and San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker.

Rock of Ages' less than solid

Movie musical combines the worst of Broadway, 80s rock

While they were once a vital part of the cinematic landscape, movie musicals have become much more of a hit or miss proposition. A musical with both good music and good execution can still be a bona fide hit, but the sad truth is that one or the other of those two primary factors is often found lacking.

'Rock of Ages,' based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, is Hollywood's latest effort.

It's 1987 the golden age of the LA rock scene. Young Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough, 'Footloose') is a starry-eyed girl who has moved to the big city from Tulsa, Oklahoma to be a famous singer. Upon her arrival, she meets Drew (Diego Boneta, TV's '90210'), an aspiring young rocker who just happens to work at the legendary Bourbon Room, a music club owned and operated by aging rocker Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin, TV's '30 Rock') and his assistant Lonny (Russell Brand, 'Arthur').
