Sick of shoveling yet? I bet you are! With the recent glut of freshly fallen powder clogging up and complicating every aspect of our lives, it can be difficult to see beyond the current situation and imagine a time when the weather will be great and the beer will be plentiful. Have no fear, the Three Pint Stance is here to help you daydream about summer drinking!

So, after you finish clearing off the driveway for the seventh time this week, take a gander at these summer beer events for 2017 and consider clearing your calendar!

Black Fly Brewfest - May 20

The Black Fly Brewfest is returning to Houlton for its second year of bringing the best of Maine’s craft beer scene to its northernmost county! The inaugural Black Fly Brewfest was a great success, and organizers are looking forward to an even better time in 2017.

If you are from the often forgotten lands north of Bangor, The Black Fly Brewfest is your chance to get a taste of what’s brewing in Maine without traveling too far. On the converse, if you are from Bangor or further south, what better reason to explore Maine’s northern reaches than beer!

The Black Fly Brewfest will held at the John A Millar Civic Center in Houlton. VIP Tickets are $55, General Session tickets are $35 and Designated Drivers can enter (and not drink) for only $10. Tickets are available on eventbrite.com (www.eventbrite.com/e/black-fly-brewfest-2017-tickets).

Tap Into Summer 2017 - June 17

Bangor’s premiere brewfest is back for its fifth year and is looking better than ever! The Bangor Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is hosting Tap Into Summer on the Bangor Waterfront on June 17th this year, and are inviting 25 of Maine’s best breweries to attend.

Details for the 2017 Festival are still being gathered, but the date is set and the tickets are on sale. VIP Tickets (includes lunch) are $50, General Session tickets are $35, DD Tickets are $20 for VIP (includes lunch), and $10 for the General Session.

The CVB is also holding “Wine on the Waterfront,” their annual wine festival the night before (June 16th), and combo tickets for both events are also available. All tickets available at brownpapertickets.com (www.brownpapertickets.com/event).

Allagash Street Fair - June 24

Allagash is closing down the Industrial Park and throwing a street fair for the third year! In what is quickly becoming a favorite annual event among craft beer lovers, Allagash is setting up for another unique celebration of Beer, Food and Music in 2017. Details are still being worked out and tickets aren’t on sale yet, but the list of brewers has been announced and that’s enough to make me want to clear my schedule! Pouring at this year’s street fair are: Allagash, Austin St., Foundation, Battery Steele, Geahgan Brothers, Marshall Wharf, Oxbow, Left Hand, Troegs, Creature Comforts, and Lost Abbey.

Musical acts and other attractions are soon to be announced, as well as ticket sales, so keep a close eye on the Allagash website (www.allagash.com/street-fair) for more information as it becomes available.

Summer Session 2017, The Maine Brewer’s Guild Festival - July 27

This festival has sort of become the mecca of Maine brew festivals, as it is the only festival to showcase every brewery in Maine! Summer Session 2017 is set for July 27 at Thompson’s Point in Portland, and looks to feature as many of Maine’s 60-plus breweries as possible, alongside invited guests “from away,” in what is sure to be an epic day of beer and (hopefully) sunshine along the water.

Tickets and confirmed attendees are still to be announced. I’ve mentioned this before, but if you only go to one festival this year, make it this one! Keep an eye on the Maine Brewer’s Guild website (mainebrewersguild.org/events) for more information as it becomes available. Tickets for this festival sell quick, so don’t miss out!

I hope this departure from the doldrums of winter has lifted your spirits. Close your eyes and imagine a sunny, 70-degree day with a cold, crisp, hoppy ale in your glass and a smile on your face. Now open your eyes, put your damn gloves on and get back out there. The driveway isn’t going to shovel itself!
