BANGOR On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Oct. 6 through Nov. 19, UMMA presents a fall after-school arts program from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Participation costs $55 for Museum of Art members; $65 for non-members ($10 sibling discount).

In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to play interactive gallery games while exploring the current exhibits and learning about art history. Elements and principles of design as well as learning to use visual art as a means of personal expression will be addressed. Students will have the opportunity to try various approaches to art making in a variety of media.

You may bring a sketchbook (if you have one) to sketch ideas to look at for inspiration. UMMA will provide all of the materials you will need to create your artwork. Just be sure to dress for art-making - participants will get messy! Students are encouraged to bring a snack.

Kat Johnson currently serves as the education coordinator at UMMA. She has a B.A. in Theatre and a Masters of Fine Art in Intermedia from the University of Maine. She has experience with a variety of media including drawing, painting, small scale sculpture, fiber arts, bookmaking and photography. She has taught in public and private settings for students of all ages. She finds great inspiration in teaching the museum's education programs.
