SCARBOROUGH - The Maine Crafts Guild turns 40 this year and hosts its 6th Annual Scarborough Fine Craft Show, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20 at Camp Ketcha, 336 Black Point Road near Scarborough Beach State Park.

The Maine Crafts Guild was established in 1975 with the goal of bringing the finest professional craftspeople together with those who appreciate handmade products. Guild members have a commitment to excellence and a passion to create. Some focus on pushing the limits of their work, some on learning traditional methods from the elders of their craft, some are attracted to handwork because of the quality of life it engenders, while others are motivated to have a positive cultural impact.

The Guild maintains a dynamic membership comprised of young journeymen, nationally-recognized masters and founding members who continue to show new workillustrating the perseverance and self-reliance that are integral to surviving as a professional artisan in Maine.

'Fortunately, the Maine Crafts Guild has built a reputation of offering very high quality handcrafted products. That reputation has allowed me to market my furniture to an audience who can appreciate the time, effort, and craftsmanship that goes into every piece,' said Newburgh-based woodworker Forrest Procter.

Attendees of the 6th Annual Scarborough Fine Craft Show can meet the inspired makers and shop for pottery, furniture, hand-blown glass, fiber, paper, jewelry and moreall made and presented by exceptional Maine artists.

Additionally, the show's venue and co-sponsor, Camp Ketcha, has much to offer attendees. There are hiking and biking trails that folks are welcome to enjoy and they will even be offering $5 pony rides to children on Saturday the 19th from 12-1 p.m. This show is the perfect way to savor the end of summer! Admission: $5 adults; under 18 free.
