First Friday Art Walk to feature works by Leslie Bowman

MACHIAS -- Leslie Bowman of Lubec will be the featured artist for September at the Machias Bay Chamber of Commerce art gallery. A reception with the artist will be part of the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Machias from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

Bowman is a photographer and painter. Her show 'Natural Interests' will include paintings, photographs and digital montages.

Bowman has a degree in fine arts from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and an MFA in painting from Washington University in St. Louis. Bowman currently teaches at the University of Maine at Machias in the Interdisciplinary Fine Arts program and is a regular contributor to the Island Institute's Working Waterfront newspaper.

Recent exhibitions include those at the University of Maine Museum of Art, Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Mulholland Market Gallery, The Crow Town Gallery, UMM Art Gallery and the Tides Institute Museum of Art.

First Friday Art Walk will include artworks and artisans throughout the downtown Machias area including, The Whole Life Studio, Woodwind Gallery, the Machias Chamber Gallery, Machias Art and Antiques, Columbia Falls Pottery, the Machias Valley Grange, The French Cellar, Obadiah's and the Art Gallery at the University of Maine at Machias.

The UMM Gallery will feature a joint art and poetry exhibit. A wide range of artists will be at the Machias Valley Grange.l
