Essex Street bridge renamed

BANGOR - The City of Bangor is pleased to announce the Essex Street I-95 Overpass Bridge willofficiallybe renamed the Brent Cross Bridge, in honor of life-long Bangorian, BrentCross.

CityCouncilorJoePerrytestifiedinFebruarybeforethe Maine House of Representatives' Transportation Committee in support of the renaming where it was approved and passed by the legislature.

TheEssexStreet Overpass Bridge was one that he used frequently during his regular travel. Councilor Perrysaid,'Brent was my personal friend and a friend to our entire community. The bridge is a symbol of howwellhe brought peopletogether.'

Brent Cross was an active and well-known member of the Bangor community who worked hardtoimprove the City through volunteerism, outreach and resources. He was a member of severallocalorganizations, including founding president of the Bangor Breakfast Rotary and inductee of theHussonBusiness Hall of Fame. He happily represented and advocated not only for Bangor, but for theentireState of Maine, during his travels. He was a great example of the values that the citizens of Bangorarea care about: he was family oriented, responsible, helpful, giving, and a great neighbor andfriend.

Mr. Cross was well-liked and respected, built lasting relationships and was a true ambassador forthegreater Bangor area. The ceremony will be heldFriday, August 26, 2016 at 10:30 thebridge.Attendees are instructed to park at the Redeemer Lutheran Church at 540 EssexStreet.
