Challenger Learning Center of Maine presents STEM Showcase Open House

BANGOR - The Challenger Learning Center of Maine is offering a special opportunity for the general public to discover exciting projects in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) that are happening in our community, Thursday, Oct. 22, between 3:30 and 6 p.m.

UMaine graduate and doctoral students are among those who will be exhibiting STEM research with hands-on demonstrations for all ages. The local FIRST award winning robotics team will also be demonstrating the latest in competition robots.

Exhibit highlights:

- See 'Minecraft' used in a new way with a fun, hands-on approach!

-Find out how Multibeam sonar is used to map the sea floor.

-Learn how glaciers flow.

-Touch and see local wetland invertebrates.

-Learn about pollinator conservation in Maine with bees.

-Use a visual acuity program to learn how the eye and basic properties of

optics allow us to see certain objects/letters/colors.

-Are you eating seaweed? Find out how Maine aquaculture is harvesting seaweed for food.

-Catch a Frisbee from a FIRST robotics competition robot.

Challenger's gift shop will be open during the event and there will be free NASA giveaways.

Admission is free (donations will be gratefully accepted).
