Abbe Museum to host Backyard Bash

BAR HARBOR The Abbe Museum will host its inaugural Backyard Bash onSeptember 10 from3-9 its downtown Bar Harbor location at 26 Mount Desert St. Within the confines of the Museum's backyard, dozens of organizations and artists are coming together to celebrate and showcase creative work and people, and how creative placemaking supports Wabanaki artists and the Bar Harbor community.

AUGUSTA The Alzheimer's Association Maine Chapter recognized the significant contributions of its many volunteers and supporters during a reception at the Blaine House on April 19. Highlighting the event was a presentation of the Chapter's 2015 Volunteer Achievement, 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer's Awards, and the 2015 Longest Day Award.

UMM, UMFK team up for Early College partnership

MACHIAS - The University of Maine at Machias and the University of Maine at Fort Kent are piloting a new, online Early College partnership. The two campuses will now collaborate to expand the number of course choices for Early College students throughout the State of Maine.

FARMINGTON - What if in addition to the knowledge contained in books, a library offered the knowledge of human experience shared in-person by the people who lived it? That is the idea behind the 'Human Library' project, an event that will be held at the University of Maine at Farmington Mantor Library onApril 7 and 8, 2016. The event is free and open to the public.

ORONO The University of Maine's Emera Astronomy Center has announced a pair of ongoing programs for the month of April.

FARMINGTON The University of Maine at Farmington Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program proudly presents fiction author, William Giraldi, as the next reader in its popular Visiting Writers Series. Giraldi will read from his work at 7:30 p.m., March 10, in The Landing in the UMF Olsen Student Center. The reading is free and open to the public.

BANGOR Although the Bangor Public Library is still a labyrinth due to construction, it is slowly reintroducing programming into the daily mix. Local author and former University of Maine professor Ann James Joles will be presenting on her book: 'Sink or Swim: The Incredibly Simple Rules for a Healthy, Low-Stress, and Successful College Education' on Wednesday, March 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Library's Lecture Hall.

'It is always a pleasure to support a local author,' says Barbara McDade, library director. 'This book can help students and parents be prepared to navigate the complex nature of college. This book is a useful tool to learn how to be successful.'
