Public invited to name new Cross Insurance Center burger

BANGOR - There's a new burger in town, and it is in desperate need of a name. This half-pound angus burger topped with bacon and poutine, a Canadian dish consisting of gravy, French fries and cheese curds, will be available at the Cross Insurance Center starting May 1. However, before it can be featured on the menu it needs a name, so the public is encouraged to submit their name suggestions online by April 14.

"Everyone here is so excited about this. We've had well over 400 entries already," explained Carmen Montes, director of food and beverage at Ovations Food Services which supplies the concessions at the CIC. "I had approached our culinary team and said I want you to come up with something new and unique. A lot of them liked this [burger] because it had a regional flare with the poutine and everyone started yelling out names and I said we should let the public name it."

Since the opening of the CIC last year, Montes said her kitchen staff has worked hard at providing food that you typically wouldn't find at other venues.

"We have two different types of wings and sauces. We do pulled pork sandwiches, Maine chowder and stews. We also carry W.A. Bean hotdogs so people get their traditional red hot dogs. These are definitely unique and different things," explained Montes. "The big thing for us is that it's all made fresh. All our fries are actually made from Maine potatoes."

Montes is also very aware of the different dietary restrictions some customers face on a daily basis.

"I [have] celiac disease which changed my culinary career and made me aware of what to have available. So we have gluten-free buns on request and gluten-free whoopie pies. We have options for people with restricted diets," she said.

The new Cross Insurance Center burger will be featured at the Hunter Hayes concert on May 1. The individual whose name suggestion is chosen for the sandwich will have their named featured on the concession sign under the description of the burger. The winner will also receive two certificates for the signature burgers, two club level tickets to a show or concert at CIC along with dinner for two at the buffet the night of the show or concert they attend.

"What we're going to do is take all the names that have been submitted, weed through them and then we'll put it out to vote and the one with the most votes will win," said Montes.

Anyone who would like to participate in naming the new burger is encouraged to log on to https://promosimple.com/ps/42e1 to submit suggestions. The deadline is April 14.
