2. I am always preaching for my clients to stop washing their hair every day no matter what time of year it is. This time of year you absolutely should not be shampooing your hair every day. Dry, cold air sucks the moisture out of everything. Your hair needs extra TLC right now. You should avoid shampooing every day and add a leave-in conditioner to your daily routine. If you can't stand the thought of not 'washing' your hair, simply rinse with water in the shower and add conditioner to the ends. Just leave out the shampoo.
3. Deep condition your hair. Your hairstylist can offer you some great in-salon treatments for your hair that are a nice treat, and I would suggest doing it once a month through the winter. But even once a month is not enough. You should be doing it at home once a week. You can ask your stylist what they recommend you use at home and purchase something from them, or you can go dig in the pantry and make one yourself. Coconut oil is a great at-home treatment for your hair (it's great for your skin too). Apply to dry hair and wrap your hair with a plastic cap or saran wrap to keep in place. I also like to warm a damp towel in the microwave and wrap that around my head while I let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Shampoo and style as usual. If you are really daring, you could even sleep in this overnight and rinse in the morning. The longer it is on, the better.
Most of realize our skin needs more lotion this time of year, but we easily forget our hair needs moisture too. Don't forget these steps through these cold months.
