BREWER - A special dinner and auction to help fund the ministry of The Brick Church, 126 Union St. in Bangor, is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, from 4-8 p.m. The event will take place at Jeff’s Catering, 15 Littlefield Road in Brewer, according to church administrator Chris Marley.

“We’ll have a spaghetti dinner, a live and silent auction, and some great raffle items,” Marley told The Maine Edge. “We’re asking for a suggested donation of $10. We’ll have crafts for sale and live music from Fishers of Men.”

At what will be the first event of its kind to benefit the Brick Church, Marley says the fundraiser will help defray operating costs and will help ensure that various ministries at the church will continue to be available.

Among the expected items for auction: A baseball signed by a Boston Red Sox pitcher, a lock job from Key Lock and Safe locksmiths in Bangor, an overnight stay at Vacationland Inn in Brewer, an overnight stay at Sunrise Motel in Bar Harbor, a three-day, two-night September stay at Moosehead Cottage Resort in Greenville, an overnight stay at Acadia Sunrise motel in Trenton, original art from Obrianna Cornelius and more items added by the day.

Since Biker Church USA took over the day to day operations of the Brick Church in December 2019, the church has made strides in expanding its community outreach.

The church’s Storehouse provides free clothing to the needy and a warming center for the homeless during cold weather. Several local charitable groups take turns serving free hot meals six days a week to anyone facing hunger.

According to Marley, the only funding the church receives is by donation.

Each month, the Brick Church serves 1,500 meals and distributes upwards of 9 tons of food, according to Marley.

Further auction items for the dinner fundraiser on May 19 are welcome and encouraged. To donate an item or to make a monetary donation, call Chris at 207-551-6583 or Laura at 207-852-7665. Donations are tax deductible and a receipt and can be provided.
