Summer is right around the corner and registration is now open for the Center for Maine Contemporary Art's ArtLab ArtCamp for kids aged six to 11 years old.

BeginningJuly 11, ArtLab ArtCamp will be offered for three one-week sessions, from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. ArtCamp will take place in the ArtLab classroom, courtyard and galleries at CMCA's new building at 21 Winter Street in Rockland.

Using the art of Alex Katz, Rollin Leonard and Jonathan Borofsky on exhibit in the CMCA galleries as a springboard, artist instructors Alexis Iammarino and Russell Kahn will lead campers through fun, inspiring, hands on art explorations. Kids will draw, paint, print and sculpt while discovering themselves as artists.

Each week of ArtCamp will offer a different theme. FromJuly 11-15will be 'Re-Invent Yourself' with Alexis Iammarino. Kids will create multiple versions of themselves experimenting with monotypes, collagraphs and a combination of printing techniques.

FromJuly 18-22will be 'Bodyscapes' with Russell Kahn and Alexis Iammarino. Using life-sized body tracings as a template, young artists will explore bodies in motion and discover pattern and decoration.

From July 25-29will be 'build, Build, BUILD' exploring 3D Arts with Russell Kahn. With imaginations running, kids will construct in 3-dimensions combining a variety of mediums, such as wood, clay, and found objects.
