Autumn Gold approaches in Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH - Autumn Gold Weekend promises to be bigger and better than ever this year with new events, prizes, and a Jumbo Jackpot that could potentially be up to $10,000.

The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce will be kicking off Autumn Gold on the last weekend of September.Always the biggest weekend of events on Ellsworth's calendar, this year promises to be even bigger!

It all starts with the Autumn Gold Business After Hours sponsored by the Downeast Family YMCA and the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, taking place onThursday Sept. 22at the Moore Community Center at5 p.m.Members and their guests are invited to attend this kickoff to the weekend. In addition, the winners of the Autumn Gold Decorating Contest will be announced that evening.

On Sept. 23, shoppers can 'Go for the Gold' at chamber member retail shops. No purchase is necessary - just enter your name in the 'Go for the Gold Bag.' First prize is $300 worth of fuel products from Dead River, second prize is a weeknight at the Lucerne Inn along with a $75 meal voucher and third prize is a Dine Around package of four $25 gift cards to Riverside Caf, Helen's, Sylvia's and Governors. 'Go for the Gold Bags' will be available all weekend for entries at member retail stores; a list of participating businesses will be available at the Chamber offices.

The Autumn Gold Golf Tournament kicks off at9 the Lucerne Golf Course. That evening will include hot air balloon rides at Harbor Park (weather permitting) from 5-7 p.m. sponsored by ReMax and concerts including The Crown Vics in the Acadia Realty Parking lot from6-8 p.m.and The Mastersons live at the Grand Auditorium at7:30 p.m.

Saturday starts with pancake breakfasts at both the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department and the Ellsworth Middle School. Chamber events begin at8 a.m. at Home Depot with the 33rd Annual Car Show and City Cruise.Chowderfest opens at Harbor Park at11:30with local chefs competing for the best chowders. The public can taste and vote for their favorites for a $5 entrance fee; celebrity judges will include Chris Facchini of WLBZ 2, cookbook author Cheryl Wixon and Top Drawer Darlings representative Kevin Tesseo.

Free boat rides on the Union River start at1 p.m.this year, with the later start due to a low tide earlier in the day.The Chamber's newest event - the Autumn Gold Beer and Wine Tasting tent - will open at1 p.m. A $10 admission gets you tastes provided by Airline Brewery, Atlantic Brewery and Catherine Hill Winery; this event is 21-plus.

Other events all overthe city include Mill Mall Family Days, the Roger Willey road race at the YMCA,the noontime Rotary Rubber Ducky Race, the Maine Coast Mall craft fair and children's activities, the 'Live without Limits' Children's Fair at the Moore Center and much more.

And finally, there's the Jumbo Jackpot.

'Our Jumbo Jackpot ticket will be a hot item at all of the Autumn Gold Events this year' stated Gretchen Wilson, Executive Director of the Ellsworth Chamber. 'Our format is now a 50/50 drawing with 12 tickets for $10.00.The jackpot can go as high as $10,000 depending on sales.' Jumbo Jackpot tickets are available now at the Ellsworth Chamber office and from all Ellsworth Chamber Board members.
