Return of LobsterFest

HAMPDEN - The Friends of Maine Hockey and McLaughlin's at the Marina are bringing back the popular LobsterFest with the 2014-2015 UMaine Men's Ice Hockey Team.

ORRINGTON Brewer Lake in Orrington was the site of the 2014 SAF Maine State High School Bass Fishing Championship on Saturday, July 19, 2014. The fishing duo of Hunter Pate and Jacob Gauvin captured the title with a weigh-in of 10.8 pounds. This win qualifies them for the conference championship level.

Hunter Pate of Orrington is a senior at John Bapst Memorial High School. Jacob Gauvin of Bucksport is a junior at Bucksport High School. Both young men have been fishing competitively for the past two years with adults in the Bangor Bass Club and the Outcast Bass Club. The team has previously won the Penobscot River Tournament in 2012, the Silver Lake tournament in 2013 and placed in several other tournaments. They are currently in the top 10 Tournament of Champions trail with the Outcast club.

BBBS golf tournament to benefit local children

BANGOR - The Hermon Meadows golf course will be the setting and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine will be the beneficiary of a new golf tournament to help local Penobscot County children facing adversity. The 'Golf Fore Kids' Sake' tournament will take place on Friday, Aug. 22 with a field of up to 25 teams vying for top prizes and local children the winners.

Alex Gaeth, CEO of BBBS of Mid-Maine, says this is the agency's first tournament in Penobscot County, after holding similar tournaments at the Belgrade Lakes Golf Club and at the Samoset Resort in Rockport to raise funds for the agency's work in Kennebec Valley and the Midcoast. 'We're excited to hold this event at Hermon Meadows and have already confirmed 18 of the 25 teams that will be participating, but we do have a few slots remaining for any interested foursomes.'

The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame is pleased to announce its inaugural Hall of Fame class. Each of the inductees is well known to Maine basketball fans and all have left a legacy of excellence and accomplishment on Maine's basketball history.

The first class, which represents all regions of the state, will be inducted in a ceremony on Aug. 21 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

UMaine Hockey Banquet and Auction Set for May 9

BREWER - The Friends of Maine Hockey salute the 2013-2014 UMaine men's ice hockey team at the annual Awards Banquet on Friday, May 9 at Jeff's Catering in Brewer. The cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with the buffet dinner following. The banquet is open to the public. Join them to show your support and say goodbye to the seniors.

Bidding will be fast and furious in the popular silent auction which features dozens of quality gift items, UMaine hockey memorabilia and numerous signed NHL jerseys from former UMaine players. The live auction with the five senior road jerseys will also attract exciting competitive bidding. All funds collected go directly to the men's ice hockey program. 

FARMINGTON A December 2013 graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, Lindsay Ball is headed for the competition of a lifetime in Sochi, Russia, as the only Maine athlete named to the official 2014 U.S. Paralympic Alpine Skiing Team.

'We couldn't be prouder of Lindsay,' said Kathryn A. Foster, UMF president. 'She has excelled at UMF in so many ways, and we'll be cheering for her as she races in the upcoming Paralympics half way around the world.'

BANGOR The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame (MBHOF), an organization created to honor the history of basketball and its players, coaches, officials and other leading contributors in Maine, announced that it will have a permanent home and exhibit inside Bangor's Cross Insurance Center. The newly formed Board of Directors also announced a formal ceremony set for Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 when Maine basketball standouts will be honored as the Hall of Fame's inaugural inductees. The MBHOF will announce the names of those inaugural inductees later this year.

Located on the second floor of arena and conference center, the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame is located in what is referred to as the 'Hall of Fame Concourse' just inside the facility's Southwest Entrance.

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks teams to Bowl for Kids' Sake'

STATEWIDE - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine is inviting businesses, organizations and individuals to participate in its annual Bowl For Kids' Sake (BFKS) event.  Bowlers on each team raise pledge money to support youth mentoring in Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset and Waldo Counties.  

Once again, the agency will hold three separate BFKS events throughout the six counties they serve. The first event will be held in Penobscot County from March 26-29 at Bangor-Brewer Lanes, Brewer and Family Fun Entertainment Center, Bangor. From April 1-12, the second event will be held in the Midcoast at All-Play Family Entertainment Center in Waldoboro, Point Lookout Lanes in Northport, and Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport. The final event will take place in Kennebec and Somerset Counties at Central Maine Family Fun Center in Skowhegan and Sparetime Recreation Center in Waterville and Augusta. Both weeknight and weekend dates and times are available in all three regions.
