ORONO Registration is open for the second annual Jr. Bears Triathlon that will be held on the University of Maine campus Saturday, June 4.

The Jr. Bears Triathlon is a fundraiser for Black Bear Aquatics (BBA), a competition-based swim team located at UMaine's Wallace Pool. The group aims to provide technical development and racing skills for all age levels. BBA has a growing youth team as well as a Black Bear Masters team for swimmers 18 and older. An evening with the young guns of the Red Sox

BANGOR - Sluggers, Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket and Townsquare Media Bangor are bringing to Bangor two of the young guns of the Boston Red Sox - catcher Blake Swihart and first baseman Travis Shaw - for an evening of baseball talk with Maine sports fans at the Gracie Theatre on the Husson University campus. The Jan. 21 event starts at 7 p.m. and includes a VIP 'meet & greet' session followed by a hot stove session that will review great stories and inside information from past seasons and take a look ahead to the 2016 season. Fans will also have an opportunity to ask questions during the hot stove event.

Skate with the Bears' at the Alfond

ORONO - Domino's presents the Friends of Maine Hockey's annual "Skate with the Bears" on Saturday, Dec. 12. Join the 2015-2016 University of Maine Men's and Women's Ice Hockey teams on the ice at the Alfond Arena from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

This popular family event is a great opportunity for fans of all ages to meet the players and have their pictures taken. Pick up a free player autograph sheet and gather as many autographs as you can. Friends of Maine Hockey board members will be on hand to answer your questions, sign up new members and will have Boxes of Player Cards available. Meet the Naked Five, too! Domino's will have free pizza for everyone and hot cocoa, coffee and donuts will be provided by your local Dunkin Donuts.

FORT KENT -- It was a season of symmetry at the University of Maine at Fort Kent with both the men's and women's Bengal soccer teams winning more than 20 games each against just two losses on their paths to winning USCAA National Soccer Championships in dominate fashion.

The UMFK Men's Soccer team cruised to a 21-2 record, outscoring opponents 126-18, scoring 50 goals more than any other team. The Bengals finished the season winning 13 straight matches and were first in goals, shots, shots on goal, assists and shutouts. This is the UMFK Men's second 2nd USCAA National Championship this decade.

BANGOR The eighth annual Holiday Face-Off High School Hockey Tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-28 at Sawyer Arena in Bangor.

Sponsored by the John Bapst Hockey Boosters, this annual pre-season high school hockey gives fans a sneak peek of the 2015-2016 Class A and B hockey teams in Eastern Maine. The weekend of hockey features teams from Bangor (both Varsity and JV), Brewer, Camden Hills, Hampden, Houlton, John Bapst, Old Town/ Orono and Presque Isle. Games will be played on Friday starting at 6:10 p.m.

The Havener Sisters'

A delightful adventure in historic Maine

Ardeana Hamlin recently released 'The Havener Sisters' ($16.95, Islandport Press), which details the lives of triplets China, India and Persia who in their mid-50s find that they have to sell their late father's boat and reinvent their lives. For China, this goes beyond just moving to a smaller house in Fort Point with her two sisters. It also involves learning what it means to live apart if only for a time from her identical sisters.

NEW YORK, NY Amanda Burrill graduated from Hampden Academy in 1998 and went to Boston University on a full Naval ROTC Scholarship. After eight years of military service, she obtained a French culinary degree, a wine, fortified wine and spirits certification in Paris, and received her master's degree at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Post-military, she followed a surprising path that has led to a life of travel and adventure. She writes about food, fitness, travel, lifestyle and military affairs. She is the fitness tech editor at Iron Man Magazine, Lifestyle columnist for Task and Purpose and has a Travel Channel web series that just filmed its second season.

Burrill, a former track and field MVP at Hampden Academy, came back from several serious surgeries, to include foot and hip, to run more marathons and triathlons and become a fitness model, in addition to her other endeavors. She has also just signed her first book contract.

Hockey 101 Crash Course

ORONO - UMaine hockey fans are known as the the most knowledgeable fans in the country. If you want to understand the game of hockey better, the Friends of Maine Hockey invite you to the free Hockey 101 Crash Course. Join fellow hockey enthusiasts on Thursday, Oct. 1, 7-9 p.m. in the Alfond Family Lounge.

Learn about icing, off-sides, penalties and more from Coach Red Gendron, UMaine Hockey staff and area referees. Watch video highlights and have your questions answered by the experts. The Hockey 101 Crash Course is free and open to fans of all ages.

POLAND - Brian Enman, current Golf Professional at Bangor Municipal Golf Course has been elected to the Maine Golf Hall of Fame. Enman was joined by five other members at an induction dinner held last week at the Poland Spring Golf Club in Poland, Maine.

'This is a great honor for Brian and we are proud he is joining this elite group of Maine golf professionals,' said Tracy Willette, director of Parks and Recreation.
