Kibbles and Picks 2019 - Week 12

And just like that, we’re back to square one.

Thanks to a stellar 11-3 week from Stella and a slightly-less-stellar 9-5 out of me, Kibbles and Picks is officially all tied up. We can basically just forget the first three months of the season and move forward from here.

And there doesn’t look to be a ton of movement after Week 12; Stella and I differ on just five of the week’s 14 games. That said, if one of us really crushes it, we can open up a not-insignificant lead. Regardless, since we’re at odds on an odd number, the tie will be no more. Someone will be winning at this time next week – it just remains to be seen who that might be.

First up is the Thursday night matchup between Indianapolis and Houston. I’m going with the Texans to win at home. I like Deshaun Watson and company to bounce back after the thorough shellacking they got from the Ravens last week. The Colts losing star RB Marlon Mack certainly doesn’t hurt Houston’s outlook either. Stella thinks that yes, the Colts will miss Mack, but that his replacements handled their business well enough. She thinks the Texans may struggle to move the ball against a sneaky-good Indy defense. We both agree that this has a shot to be one of the best Thursday games of the season.

Next, I’ve got the Buccaneers going into Atlanta and beating the Falcons. While I recognize that Jameis Winston will almost certainly turn the ball over a couple of times, I also think that the Falcons will struggle to cover Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Of course, Stella thinks that Tampa Bay will have equal issues in covering Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. We both agree that it’s going to come down to which team can pull off a big defensive play or two, though neither of us thinks highly of the respective Ds. Expect a high-scoring affair. Take the over.

I'm rolling with a hunch here and going with the Eagles. I think that the Seahawks are due for a stumble and that this could be the game. While the Philly secondary might not be great, I thinks their pass rush might help cover that. I also feel like Carson Wentz is due for a good game and that the Philly home crowd will be fired up. Plus, the Eagles need this game to keep pace in the division. Stella's going with the Seahawks on the road, beating the Eagles in Philadelphia. It’s tough to pick against Russell Wilson right now – he might be your 2019 MVP – especially when you consider the questionable quality of the Eagles secondary. And with a guy like Chris Carson holding down the run game, plus a resurgent defense, she likes her chances here.

This next one could be surprisingly competitive. I have the Jaguars winning on the road, taking down the Titans in Tennessee. While I’m not overly confident in the Jags offense, I expect Nick Foles to continue getting more comfortable under center. Leonard Fournette will be his usual steady self and Jacksonville will do what needs to be done. Stella likes the Titans here. She’s high on the surprisingly effective Ryan Tannehill at QB and thinks that Derrick Henry will be able to run all over the Jacksonville defense. She’s not as jazzed about the Tennessee D, but thinks they’ll have enough working to hold off the inconsistent Jags.

Finally, I’ve got the 49ers winning at home against the Packers. While none of the San Francisco offensive players have been spectacular, it’s hard to ignore the results. I think this could wind up being a signature win for young Jimmy Garoppolo; it all depends on whether he can maintain the Niners passing attack against a better-than-you-think Green Bay defense. Stella isn’t ready to concede; she really likes the Packers going forward this season. There’s Aaron Rodgers, of course, but she also thinks that both RB Aaron Jones and receiver Davante Adams are going to have big games. San Francisco’s defense is good, but can it stop the Green Bay skill position players? Stella says no.

And there we have it. Five games. Next week, the tie will be broken. Will we have a new leader? Tune in and find out!
