Kibbles and Picks 2016 - Week 15

It isn’t over yet.

I managed yet another strong week, going 11-5 this time around. And thanks to a 9-7 performance from Stella, I shaved another two games from her lead. Granted, she’s still up five on me, but things are heating up.

I might actually have a shot. Of course, I need a win just to get a career split – Stella’s beaten me two of the previous three years that we’ve done this thing – but just being close is pretty exciting.

It’s not going to be easy, however – Stella and I differ on just five games in Week 15. That’s not a lot to work with (though if I go five-for-five, we’ll be in a dead heat going into the last two weeks of the season and that would be awfully exciting).

It starts on Saturday night this time; we are usually at odds on the Thursday game, but no one – not man nor beast – would consider taking the Rams to beat Seattle.

And so it’s Miami versus the Jets. I’m taking the road team (this will be a theme; Stella likes a LOT of home teams this week) even though they just lost their quarterback; I think Jay Ajayi and the Dolphins running game will do fine against the Jets front seven. Stella’s not sold – she thinks Miami falls apart without Ryan Tannehill and that this game will accelerate a rapid downward spiral for the Dolphins.

I'm going with the Detroit Lions as they take on the New York Giants. I was definitely impressed by that Giants win over the Cowboys, but I'm expecting an ever-so-slight letdown – one that Matthew Stafford and company will exploit. Stella's not at all sold on Detroit and think the Giants defense will be hitting Stafford all day. Hard to trust Eli Manning, but Stella believes that this time, he does enough to pull out a close win.

I shouldn’t be as nervous as I am about picking this Steelers team against the floundering Bengals. Guys like Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown are just so good, but lest we forget, Ben Roethlisberger has struggled on the road for most of the season. If the Bengals D gets a lucky break, this could be a surprise game. Stella wouldn’t be surprised at all – Cincinnati’s postseason hopes are dashed, so this is the closest to a playoff game they’ll get. She thinks the Bengals pull off the upset.

As for Stella's pick of the Saints to go into Arizona and beat the Cardinals, well – call it a gut call. Drew Brees is much less effective on the road, but Carson Palmer has looked pretty brutal in recent weeks. Plus, the Arizona receiving corps is particularly thin with the departure of Michael Floyd. New Orleans has the tools to take them down. Stella's making a lot of sense, but I'm going with the best player on the field; Arizona’s David Johnson is a monster and I think he puts the team on his back and leads them to victory.

Finally, in the Monday night game, I’m reaching a little. I’m going with Carolina to beat Washington. Cam Newton and the Panthers have had a season to forget, but I’m looking for Newton and company to try and save a little face here. Stella didn’t go so far as to openly mock this pick, but she’s shaking her head as she takes Washington. She thinks that with playoff aspirations, Kirk Cousins and the rest of the offense will have their foot firmly on the gas and will take Carolina down.

So yeah – five games down. Hopefully, this week will help me gain a little more ground and we can have a real fight to the finish.
