Kibbles and Picks 2016 Week 7

Wellit was fun while it lasted.

Turns out my comeback run was destined to be all too brief. I put up a real stinker in Week 6, managing to go just 7-8 the first sub-.500 week of the season on either side. Stella didn't have a spectacular week, but 9-6 is enough to neatly erase the meager gains I made last week.

Frankly, it could have been worse that overtime win by the Texans saved me from full-fledged disaster.

Still, it's a whole new week. Stella and I are at odds on six contests; she's got a couple of picks that have me scratching my head, but I long ago stopped questioning her methods.

First up is Giants/Rams. I'm counting on the general ineptitude of Los Angeles to continue; I don't think New York is a spectacular team, but they look capable of taking down a struggling Rams squad. Stella's far more bullish on the Rams; she thinks the passing game has progressed enough to actually allow stud running back Todd Gurley some room. Her call is an ugly Rams win. Next, Stella has Indianapolis going into Tennessee and taking down the Titans. While the Colts have had their share of struggles, she's got a hunch that Andrew Luck is due for a big game. I'm feeling Tennessee this week; I look at the last few games, where the Titans D has gotten a ton of sacks against pass protection far better than Indy's, and like what I sees. I'm also expecting another huge game from Marcus Mariota.

I've made a habit of picking against Washington this season; the trend continues as I pick the Lions to win at home in Detroit. Matthew Stafford is going to be firing away against a Washington secondary that hasn't been as good as expected; they'll win a high-scoring affair. Stella's going with Washington; despite some injury issues, she thinks the passing game will look good against the Lions. She's also calling for a sneaky-big game on the ground from Matt Jones. I really like what Oakland has been able to do on offense this season; Derek Carr will be firing at both Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree with abandon. Jacksonville hasn't been able to stop anyone, so the Raiders look poised to explode. Oddly enough, Stella basically feels the same way about the Jaguars; she figures Blake Bortles is going to break out, throwing to Allens Robinson and Hurns with no fear of the porous Oakland secondary. We both agree, however, that a whole lot of points will be scored.

This next one seems a bit off to me. Stella has picked the Dolphins to win over Buffalo. She thinks that Miami's questionable offense will gel sufficiently to overcome the Bills. She acknowledges it might look a bit of a stretch, but she's making a gut call. I, on the other hand, look at the Bills to continue their strong performance; they're going to run roughshod all over Miami. It'll be a grinder of a game, but Buffalo should win. Finally, in a game that's awfully tough to care about, I'm picking Tampa Bay and Stella is picking San Francisco. Neither team is in particularly good shape right now; I figure Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers will take down the 49ers, while Stella thinks San Francisco will be able to grab a victory in another low-scoring affair.

So that's six. I'm cautiously optimistic here, but the reality is that Stella has a much better grasp of things than I do. Basically, I continue to cross my fingers and hope that I don't get taken down by my adorable furry pigskin-picking machine.
