Kibbles and Picks 2016 Week 6

In your adorable little face, Stella!

That's right I managed to go 9-5, while my fuzzy foe could only swing a .500 record. Thus, I have made up two games of my three-game deficit; after five weeks, we are separated by a single game.

I'm not going to lie it feels good. I've been beaten in two of the past three years; it would be awfully nice to even the slate. Not that I'm celebrating, because there is a whole lot of football left to be played and it's very possible that last week simply served to motivate Stella and a motivated puppy prognosticator is a dangerous puppy prognosticator.

We're at odds on six games again this week; there are some tricky ones on the slate, so it's really anybody's guess as to how it will go. Neither one of us are particularly confident in our picks, though Stella is pretty sure she's ultimately going to extend her lead.

The first game where we're at odds is Philadelphia versus Washington. I'm a believer in Carson Wentz; I also think the Eagles defense is a force to be reckoned with. This seems like an easy pick frankly, I'm a little surprised that Stella disagrees. But she does she thinks Washington is set up to take down their divisional foe, placing particular emphasis on the home field advantage. We also disagree on a game that almost no one cares about. I've got Tennessee beating Cleveland, but it's basically a coin flip as far as I'm concerned. I think the Titans get it done, but she thinks the Browns are going to be up for one of their few solid chances at a win.

I don't think the Bears are a very good football team, but Jacksonville is struggling pretty hard right now. Brian Hoyer looks good at QB and Jordan Howard can really run it; they'll take apart the Jaguars defense. Stella likes Blake Bortles to have a good showing against a suspect Bears secondary and the Jacksonville Allens (Robinson and Hurns) to go off. Stella also likes the Giants at home; she doesn't think Baltimore is equipped to take advantage of an admittedly questionable secondary. She likes Eli Manning and the Giants receivers to expose the Ravens D. I'm not buying it even a dinged-up Baltimore offense should be able to move against the Giants. And the defense isn't vintage Ravens, but it's good enough.

Stella likes what she's seen from the Cowboys thus far this season, with the rookie duo of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott doing work against the rest of the NFL. She thinks their game matches up nicely against the Packers and that they'll pull out the win at Lambeau. I know Aaron Rodgers has been slumping and the running game is suspect, but I think the Packers are due for a signature-type win; this could be it. And finally, I'm picking the Texans to beat the Colts in yet another already-largely irrelevant matchup mostly because I have wideout Will Fuller on my fantasy team. Stella thinks that the Houston pass rush won't be able to take full advantage of the porous Indy offensive line and that Andrew Luck will find a way to pull out the road victory.

It was nice to tighten the race a little bit, but I definitely wish my move had been bigger. Stella looks poised to drop the hammer; all I can do is hope to keep up.
