Kibbles and Picks 2016 - Week 12

It has been a long time coming, but it looks like Kibbles and Picks might finally be getting back on track.

After a long stretch at or around .500, I finally had a strong week, correctly picking nine of the weeks 14 games. 9-5 looks awfully good ' at least, it does until you look at Stella's record. She nailed almost all of her picks, winding up Week 11 with an 11-3 record.

And so, despite some good work on my part, Stella managed to lengthen her lead by another two games, pushing it up to six games. There's still over a month left, but I'm running out of time. I need to narrow the gap ' and soon.

Unfortunately, despite no teams on bye this week ' meaning a full slate of 16 contests ' Stella and I differ on just five games. However, thanks to a couple of seemingly questionable picks on Stella's part, I think I might just have a shot at taking a bite out of that big lead of hers.

First up is our only clash among the Thanksgiving games ' we both like Dallas and Pittsburgh, but I'm going with the Lions at home while she's picking the Vikings. I like Matthew Stafford to throw a bunch against this reeling Minnesota defense and I don't have any faith in the Sam Bradford-led offense. Stella thinks that this is the week where the Vikings start to right the ship. She's confident that the defense we see this week will be much closer to the shutdown D from earlier in the season; she also likes their chances at a pick-six against a gunslinger like Stafford.

In one of her more inexplicable picks, Stella is picking the Bears to beat the Titans. While she acknowledges Chicago's injury struggles, she's got a hunch that the Bears might catch Tennessee napping a little bit. She thinks that Marcus Mariota is due for a hiccup and thinks this defense might be sneaky-good this week. I don't buy it; Mariota has looked great for half the season and the Titans run game looks strong. Some offenses might take advantage of a suspect Tennessee defense, but Chicago's isn't one of them.

Stella likes San Diego this week; Philip Rivers can put up some numbers against mediocre teams and Houston is definitely that. The Texans can't stop anybody; with Rivers doing his thing and Melvin Gordon running wild, the Chargers will score plenty. And considering Brock Osweiler's struggles, Houston's not equipped for a shootout. I have a hunch that Houston will be able to hold off the Chargers; they play a little tougher on their home field. I'm predicting a bit of a bounce back from DeAndre Hopkins as well.

She's got the road team in the next one as well; while she recognizes that much of Kansas City's success thus far is smoke and mirrors, she thinks they've got enough in them to pull off the win in Denver. She likes Spencer Ware to have a big game and for the Chiefs to win a low-scoring battle of clock control. I'm in agreement with the low-scoring part, but not on the victor. Sure, Denver's offense might struggle, but it won't be anything compared to KC's issues against the Broncos D. Regardless, this one has a 13-10 final written all over it.

And finally, in the Monday Night Game, I'm going with Green Bay. I know I'm going out on a limb a little with this one ' Green Bay has scuffled recently while the Eagles have been less than impressive ' but I just have a hunch that Aaron Rodgers is due for a vintage Aaron Rodgers game. Stella thinks I'm foolish; as far as she's concerned, Philadelphia is the last place a QB is going to have a big performance. And while the Eagles have some injury issues at running back, she likes Carson Wentz to do just enough to lead his team to the win over the Packers.

One thing's for sure ' I can't afford to let Stella extend her lead anymore. If I'm going to have any chance, I need to make something happen this week. I like my chances, but honestly ' what do I know? I'm six games down to a dog.

Happy Thanksgiving!
