Kibbles and Picks 2016 Week 11

So this is starting to get a little embarrassing.

On first glance, you might think that I'd be excited. Stella only swung a .500 record in her picks this week 7-7 so it's a chance to make a move, yes? The only problem is that I managed to do even worse, making all of a half-dozen correct picks en route to an ugly 6-8 Week 10.

It's been a solid month of mediocrity for both Stella and myself, with neither one of us able to suss out the vagaries of the new-look mediocre NFL. There's very little rhyme or reason to what's going on this season, but my dog and I are committed to muddle our way through.

This week, we're split on just five games; we'll see if that's a good sign or a bad one.

As per usual, we're head to head on at least one game that no one cares about. I'm picking Tennessee to go into Indianapolis and snag a road win. The offense has looked great for a while now, with Marcus Mariota playing like the future star the Titans thought they were drafting last year. His play combined with the rushing attack led by DeMarco Murray should be enough to outscore the Colts. Stella's not giving up on Andrew Luck and company, however; she likes the Colts to perform well in front of their home crowd. According to her, a sneaky-good game from Frank Gore will be the key to the Indy victory.

Next, I'm picking the reeling Bengals to right the ship at home against Buffalo. Cincinnati is just too talented to keep underperforming I think they'll put up a lot of points, even against a solid Bills defense. Stella thinks this Buffalo team is one to watch; she thinks this could be the start of a real upswing for the Bills. She anticipates a good offensive performance and an opportunistic approach to miscues on the defensive side.

Stella's got the Vikings winning at home, taking down the Cardinals. She acknowledges the up-and-down season in Minnesota thus far, but she thinks the defense is primed for a big game and that Arizona is a great matchup for them. She believes Carson Palmer will be harassed into a couple of turnovers, but I disagree. I think Palmer will be fine and that David Johnson is good enough to run rampant over even a very good Vikings D. The score will be close, but I think Arizona pulls it out.

The next pick seems a bit odd to me Stella likes the Rams to beat the Dolphins. It doesn't make much sense to my mind, what with rookie QB Jared Goff getting his first-ever start and falling star Todd Gurley struggling hard, but she seems to think that Miami's due for a major regression. She doesn't love LA, but she thinks they eke one out at home. To my mind, it isn't close the Dolphins have looked better on both sides of the ball and put up a win against a much better team last week. Obviously, Miami's not an elite team, but they shouldn't have any problems against the Rams.

Finally, in another interesting choice, Stella is picking the Eagles to beat the Seahawks in Seattle. I'm obviously picking the home team. Despite Seattle's undefeated record at home and the fact that Philly has exactly one road win, Stella believes the Eagles are due. To my mind, Russell Wilson is just hitting his stride and should be able to do some work, though there's no disputing that the Philadelphia defense could cause him problems. Stella is convinced that this game might well be the signature win of young Carson Wentz's career. It's a bold pick for the pup; we'll see if it pays off.

(Note: It appears that I failed to notice that Stella and I were at odds regarding Green Bay/Washington and neglected a write-up. She got me on that one too.)

There we have it Week 11. With just a few differences, we could potentially both have good weeks. Or bad weeks. Probably bad ones, truth be told, but who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky. That's pretty much all I can hope for these days.
