Kibbles and Picks 2015 Week 17

Wellhere we are. It's the final week of the season; despite my best efforts last week a decent 9-7 I made up no ground on Stella, who matched that 9-7 record. She is sitting pretty with an eight-game lead going into this last week of games.

And so, for the first time this season, I allowed her picks to influence my own. I actually went against my better judgment on a couple of games simply because I needed to oppose her on at least eight games to have any chance of catching up.

As such, we now differ on eight contests fully half the games on the slate. I looked for more, but honestly, this was the best I could do and still feel like I was picking with any sort of integrity.

First up is the Jets/Bills game. This is one of the ones I feel best about I like the Jets a lot here. Their defense should be able to shut down a banged-up Bills team. Stella, on the other hand, thinks Rex Ryan is going to have his new team especially fired up to take on his old team; she expects a Buffalo victory. I'm picking Atlanta to continue the momentum from their upset over the Panthers last week and pull out a win at home over the Saints. Stella believes that the Falcons simply aren't built to stop an offense like New Orleans has; she thinks that Drew Brees will put up a huge game in this one and beat Atlanta on the road.

Stella's got Dallas and I've got Washington. She thinks the Cowboys are going to get it together enough to beat a Washington team with nothing to play for they've already clinched the division - but I think they're just playing out the string. I'm thinking Dallas pretty much lays down for Washington. The Giants/Eagles game feels like a coin flip it's a lost season for both teams. I've got the Giants winning just because Philadelphia fired Chip Kelly, but Stella thinks the Eagles will embrace the adversity and get a road win to close out the season.

Detroit and Chicago is another tough call. I was actually leaning toward the Bears until Stella picked them; I talked myself into the Lions. It's a meaningless game that really could go either way. I just have to hope that Detroit comes out on top. I also picked Oakland to beat Kansas City, but I'm not going to pretend that I actually believe the Raiders will win the choice was made solely because Stella picked the Chiefs. Kansas City has been excellent in the second half of the season; I'm just hoping Oakland's Derek Carr can execute a few big plays and pull off the upset. Stella chose Kansas City because that's the sensible pick.

Stella likes Seattle to beat an Arizona team that has already clinched a first-round bye and will likely be taking it easy. The Seahawks have looked really good as of late. Still, I think this Cardinals team can coast and still manage a win they've had a phenomenal season. Of course, if Arizona just rolls out the practice squad for the whole game, Seattle could run away with it. And finally, in the Minnesota/Green Bay battle for the NFC North title, I went with the Vikings. Green Bay hasn't been nearly as invincible as usual at Lambeau the hard-running Vikings will almost certainly give them a game. Stella thinks that Aaron Rodgers will lock down this must-win game and give the Packers another division title.

So if I go 8-0 on these games, Stella and I will be tied for the season. Improbable, yesbut not impossible.

Regardless, 2015 has been another great season. Year Three of the grand experiment is coming to a conclusion. I'm still clinging to hope, but let's be real my dog has proven once more that she knows more about football than I do. Maybe I can get some back during the playoffs. And if not?

Well, there's always next year.
