Kibbles and Picks 2015 Week 16

Well st. That didn't go how I might have hoped.

Under ordinary circumstances, putting up a 10-6 record would be cause for celebration. However, these circumstances were far from ordinary. Stella somehow managed to go a phenomenal 13-3 for the week, adding another three games to her lead for a total advantage of eight.

Suffice it to say, the next two weeks are more about damage control than anything else. Stella and I differ on six contests this week, so there's no way for me to catch her all at once. Still, it's possible that I might carve a big chunk out of that seemingly insurmountable lead.

But I won't hold my breath.

First up is the Washington/Philadelphia match-up. Somehow, these two paragons of mediocrity are still in contention for the NFC East title. I think Chip Kelly and company are due for some good luck particularly against a soft Washington D. Stella believes that playing-for-a-contract Kirk Cousins can quarterback Washington to the road win over Philly. I also like the Dolphins at home; I think they're going to finish out the season strong behind running back Lamar Miller. Stella likes Indianapolis; not so much for the quality of the Colts, but for the confused coaching on the Dolphins sideline. She thinks Indy will back into the victory.

I picked the Bears over the Buccaneers largely because I have to gamble to make any sort of real dent in Stella's lead; Tampa Bay is probably playing better, but Chicago has a puncher's chance. Stella, unfettered by desperation, made the wise pick and took the Buccaneers at home behind Doug Martin and Rookie of the Year frontrunner Jameis Winston. I'm a fan of what the Jaguars are doing; they've got a ton of offensive weapons. Playing against the putrid Saints defense has made a lot of teams look really good. Stella likes New Orleans at home; she thinks Drew Brees and the rest are playing for pride and will beat Jacksonville in a shootout.

In perhaps her biggest reach of the week, Stella picked New York to win on the road against Minnesota despite the absence of elite playmaker/petulant child Odell Beckham Jr. I'll admit that the Vikings might not be as good as their record indicates, but they've got more than enough going to take down the reeling Giants. Either way, I wouldn't count on an aesthetically pleasing game. And finally, on Monday night, I like the Broncos on their home turf. It won't be easy, but their defense will shut down the Bengals. Despite the absence of Andy Dalton, Stella believes that Cincinnati has enough offensive firepower to overcome a Broncos team that is struggling with quarterback issues of its own. Playoff position is on the line in this one; it could be harder fought than you'd expect.

Even if I'm right on every single one of these, Stella would still maintain a two-game lead. If I'm being honest with myself, we're past the point of me actually thinking I could win and venturing into 'just don't embarrass yourself' territory. Keeping her lead in single digits would be a moral victory. Cross your fingers for me.
