Kibbles and Picks 2015 Week 15

We've reached the point in the season where I'm simply trying to avoid getting embarrassed. Seriously I stayed up and watched that Monday night game solely because I needed a Giants win to dodge a crushing beat from Stella.

I got it, which meant that I finished the week at 10-6 a solid effort. Of course, Stella put up a nice and tidy 11-5 and gained another game on me, but it was close to being much worse.

After a rocky stretch in the middle of the season, Stella and I seem to have gotten our respective grooves back. Unfortunately for me, hers is the groovier groove and she keeps putting up better numbers.

In Week 15, Stella and I differ on six contests. For whatever reason, we're rarely in agreement on the Thursday night game this one is no exception. I like the Buccaneers here Doug Martin has been on fire and Tampa Bay has the better passing game. Stella's a big Todd Gurley fan and thinks that he'll be able to overcome whatever game plan Tampa Bay has for him; she's thinking St. Louis wins here. She also likes the Texans on the road; she thinks the JJ Watt-led Houston defense can go into Indianapolis and shut the Colts down. If I'm honest, I'm taking Indy largely because I need to make some bold moves, but I do think that any team has a fair chance against the inconsistent Texans offense.

I've got Washington at home; this is another gut pick, but the truth is that this team has been doing a good job putting itself in a position to win games. Stella, however, is ascribing to the 'best player on the field' theory and that's definitely Bills RB LeSean McCoy. Not only does she like Buffalo, she thinks it'll be a big win. I'm a big fan of what's happening in Oakland right now and I think they've got a real shot at taking down the Packers; their defense will shut down a staggering Green Bay offense. Stella thinks Aaron Rodgers is going to bounce back and have his way with the Raiders.

In what might be the game of the week, I've got Denver going into Pittsburgh and beating the Steelers. That Broncos defense will be able to keep the lid on the prolific Steelers, while their offense will score just enough to win. Stella doesn't see it that way she believes that Pittsburgh is going to use this game to announce their arrival as top-tier AFC contenders. Either way, it's going to be a good one. And finally, in the Monday night battle of bottom-dwellers, I think Detroit is going to go into New Orleans and hit the Saints hard. Stella thinks the Lions are going to go down to Drew Brees and company. Honestly, neither one of us is all that confident.

This is a big week for me. The likelihood of a comeback is rapidly dwindling; I really need to make up at least a little ground to keep things close, which is frankly all I'm hoping for at this point. Ultimately, Stella is in the driver's seat.
