Big pot arrest in Houlton

HOULTON – A Border Patrol Agent working in Houlton discovered 5.3 pounds of marijuana in a vehicle last week.

The discovery took place on March 30. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who is not a medical marijuana care giver, admitted to possessing marijuana and was found to have an expired Maine Medical Marijuana program card. The amount of marijuana also exceeded the allowable amount under the State of Maine recreational marijuana guidelines.

The marijuana was seized and the driver released pending further investigation. The marijuana has an estimated value of $48,000.

“Although Maine has very strict marijuana possession guidelines, marijuana possession is still against federal law,” said Houlton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens. “When our agents become aware of a federal law violation they have a duty to act and will continue to do so.”

Bangor robbery suspect caught in Conn.

BANGOR – The suspect in the robbery of a Bangor credit union has been taken into custody in Connecticut.

The suspect – 59-year-old Ronald E. Tilley of Hampden – was taken into custody on March 31 by officers of the South Windsor Police Department in Connecticut on a local theft charge. In the course of their investigation, officers discovered that Tilley had an extraditable warrant.

Said warrant was issued in connection to the robbery of the Downeast Credit Union that took place on March 27. At approximately 2:40 p.m. on that date, Bangor officers responded to the credit union – located at 24 Springer Drive – for the report of a robbery where a lone male suspect made a getaway with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The next day, Bangor Police Department Detectives, along with investigators from the Hampden Police Department and a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, executed a search warrant at a single-family home in Hampden.

As a result of the investigation, witness interviews, and evidence recovered during the execution of the search warrant, an arrest warrant was issued for Tilley.

Tilley is currently being held in Connecticut, on the warrant and theft charges. At some point, Tilley will be extradited to Bangor where he will face the robbery charge against him.

Pepper spray at PTC

BANGOR – Bangor Police have announced the results of their investigation into an incident involving pepper spray at the Bangor Opera House during a Penobscot Theatre production.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., Bangor PD officers and Bangor firefighters responded to the Penobscot Theatre to investigate an accidental exposure to an airborne irritant. Theater staff turned over a canister of what was labeled inert (training) pepper spray. The canister had been used in a stage performance of the play “Ripcord” that same evening.

The canister was sent to the laboratory for testing. That testing confirmed the canister did contain oleoresin “capsicum” – more commonly known as pepper spray.

The investigation revealed no criminal intent; therefore, the Bangor PD investigation into the matter is closed.

Assistant Airport Director Zachary Sundquist told WGME-TV that the crash Sunday night was a security breach, but the procedures in place worked as they should. The runway was not closed.

The cause of the crash is unclear.

Sundquist said security personnel will remain at the site where the fence was hit until it can be repaired on Monday.

Waterville man arrested in California after Google threats

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) — A man who said he drove cross-country to confront Google officials has been arrested in California with three baseball bats in his car’s trunk.

Police in Mountain View, the San Francisco-area city where Google’s based, were warned by two other agencies that Kyle Long was on his way and arrested him Sunday on suspicion of making criminal threats. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

Police say the 33-year-old Waterville, Maine, man was upset because his YouTube channel had been shut down. He allegedly told his hometown police that he’d get violent if his Google confrontation didn’t go well.

Google owns YouTube.

Last April, a video maker with a grudge over YouTube policies, Nasim Aghdam, shot and wounded three people at the YouTube campus in San Bruno before shooting herself.
