Underage drinking leads to charges

ORONO Police broke up an underage drinking party last Friday.

On Jan. 18, a little before midnight, someone called to report the party occurring at a residence by the lake. When police arrived they didn't see any activity, but when they knocked on the door a 17-year-old resident answered. The youth reportedly admitted there was drinking going on and that his father was asleep upstairs and unaware of the activities.

Inside, police found five juveniles who they determined had been drinking as well as two 18-year-olds, later identified as Michael Fowler, of Orono, and Zachary Williams, of Bradley. Williams was so intoxicated that officers called EMS and he was transported to the hospital, according to police.

Ultimately, five juveniles were charged with illegal possession of liquor by juveniles and their parents were contacted. Fowler and Williams were both charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

They only warn you once 

ORONO The second time around apparently didn't work out so well for three men who police say ended up in trouble after being given warnings earlier in the night on Friday.

Police were called to a loud party at The Grove complex on Jan. 25 around 10:44 p.m. Officers spoke to the residents who were hosting the party and issued disorderly conduct warnings to Robert Kuni, 23, of Waterboro, Samuel Chaplin, 22, of Winthrop, and Wesley Labbe, 21, of Lyman.

Unfortunately, the warning didn't seem to take, as officers were called back to The Grove for more noise and the report that people were knocking on other doors in the complex, according to police.

All three were charged with disorderly conduct. Labbe only received a summons, but both Kuni and Chaplin were arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail. Chaplin was also charged with refusal to submit to arrest or detention.
