Hit and run driver sought by police

BANGOR Bangor Police are hoping the public can help identify a hit-and-run driver.

On Dec. 30, at about 10:55 a.m., Officer Jermaine Walker handled a hit and run crash at the corner of Webster Ave and Crestmont Road. The victim reported being struck by a silver or grey Subaru hatchback which fled the scene immediately. The Subaru had been coming from the area of the Bangor Municipal Golf Course on Webster Ave. and was being operated by a white man in his early twenties.

A piece of the Subaru was left at the scene (see photo). Man stabbed, later dies

BANGOR - On Dec. 29, around 2:33 a.m. Bangor Police Officers responded to 80 Elm Street to the report of a man that had been stabbed. Authorities located the man andBangor Fire Ambulance crews transported him to Eastern Maine Medical Center's Emergency Room. He died late this morning at EMMC.

The Bangor Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the case along with the department's Evidence Response Team. An autopsy will be done by the Medical Examiner's Office and at that time a cause and manner of death along with the identity of the victim could be released.

The people involved in this incident have been identified and know each other. This incident was not a random act and there is no threat to the public.

Two's company, then jail

CRANBERRY ISLAND A missing persons report led to the arrest of man who wasn't supposed to be with the person who was reported missing.

On Dec. 19, Tpr. Bryan Creamer conducted a well-being check on Cranberry Island where a woman had been reported missing. Her last known location had been determined by Penobscot County Deputies to be Cranberry Island. The missing woman was located in a cottage with Paul Allen, 36, of Bangor who had bail conditions not to have contact with the woman due to a previous incident that occurred in Bangor.

Allen was arrested for violating his bail and the woman was escorted to Ellsworth.

Sgt. Alden Bustard and Marin Patrol Officer Colin MCDonald assisted.

Police warn of Craig's List scam

BANGOR Bangor police are warning citizens to be alert of a new scam that's been reported on Craig's List.

Officer Jason Stuart reported last week that a person was looking for apartments on Craig's List and found one so she replied to the ad. She received a call back from a number that later appeared to be from Nigeria and as she spoke to the man the price went from first and last month deposit needed, to just one month, then $200 dollars as quickly as she could. She did not make a commitment and called a friend that is a realtor. The friend told her that the house she was looking to rent was his and was listed through a reputable real estate company and that she was nearly scammed.

'From time to time we get complaints similar to this one. Please do not ever make transactions for apartments on the phone unless you are absolutely certain you know who you are dealing with,' said Sgt. Paul Edwards in the emailed release. 'This woman did the right thing by not wiring or charging money to a credit card as several red flags were observed while she spoke to the man from Nigeria. If you see these scams on any website, please report it to them.'
