Forgotten Felines of Maine is an organization that endeavors to educate the public about the free-roaming cats and how humans and felines can coexist, the benefits of trap, neuter and release, funding the costs of the spaying and neutering of free-roaming cats, placing adoptable cats and kittens in loving homes, and working with like-minded organizations working towards these common goals.
According to Forgotten Felines, the trap, neuter, return method is where feral or free roaming cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies and returned to their managed colony. This has been shown to be the most cost-effective and humane way of stabilizing the feral cat population.
A managed colony is a location where a group of neutered and spayed cats live with a caretaker that provides food and fresh water to the animals, as well as monitoring the felines for health issues.
Forgotten Felines works with the public as well as other organization, such as veternarians and animal shelters to reach these goals.
