"We have always appreciated their mission and efforts for helping to support people in our community who are battling cancer. It's a topic that hits home for many of us at the pub," explained Andrew Geaghan, owner.
Former Geaghan's employee Dawna Hensley, who passed away from cancer in 2013, was a big supporter of Bark for Life. When her co-workers wanted to raise funds to help pay for her recovery, she urged them to think bigger and give to an organization that could help everyone, not just her. So, that's exactly what Geaghan's has been doing ever since. On Thursday, April 30, 10 percent of the proceeds from all orders from 7 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. will be donated to Greater Bangor Bark for Life.
"We are always looking for ways to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years," said Geaghan. "It is really a win-win for both of us."
The public can participate in the fundraising efforts by simply stopping in on April 30 for a bite to eat or ordering a meal to go.
"All the money raised goes to the American Cancer Society for human cancer research, but a lot of people think it's for canine cancer," said Lisa Sturgeon, Bark for Life 2014 co-chair. "We want to fight all cancer, and so that's our goal."
Greater Bangor Bark for Life committee members will also be on hand at Geaghan's on April 30, passing out information including team registration paperwork for this year's event scheduled for June 13 from 5 8 p.m. at the Hollywood Casino Raceway in Bangor. There will also be Bark for Life items for sale for those who are interested. For more information, log on to www.relayforlife.org/barkforlife.
